The Sydney Fringe Festival hit production of the classic Steven Berkoff satire 'DECADENCE' is returning for a limited run before hitting the road in 2014.

With a huge response in September from critics and audiences we're booked into the Adelaide Fringe Festival in February- March with our "Fringe Pick" production.

We're raising funds to help tour the show to Adelaide and beyond with a limited series of exclusive performances at Sydney's indie hotspot the Old 505 Theatre.

Performed by Katherine Shearer with Rowan McDonald
Directed by Serhat Caradee
By arrangement with ORiGiN Theatrical on behalf of Samuel French Ltd

CLASS WAR SHOULDN'T BE THIS FUN

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

We're really excited to be able to run a limited season for the show at the intimate Sydney venue 505. This run will be limited to an audience of just thirty per show, for only four nights in December. We'll also be mingling and chatting about the show with the audience afterwards, which has been a staple of the show thus far for audiences inspired by Berkoff's challenging, powerful comedic wordplay.

There are options within the fundraising program to reserve your spot as a reward. Due to the limited run we can only offer two seats maximum per donation (although you may donate as many times as you like to claim multiple rewards). These events are invitation only so for your chance to catch one of the rarest of modern classics pledge support for your tickets today.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The money we raise through this campaign will go towards the production budget, which is roughly $7000. This includes venue costs (including tech staff nearly $2000), publicity (about $1500), performer food and accommodation allowances (about $1200 per person at equity rates), and other miscellaneous costs like travel to and from Adelaide, set and costume maintenance and of course, securing the performance rights for the script.

We've secured a space; the esteemed Holden St Theatres in the late night Studio slot (9pm) from February 24th to March 2nd. It's really exciting to have this opportunity to perform a modern work of genius at one of the world's great fringe festivals. If we're successful here, we'll be able to tour the show in other cities across Australia and build the company in its own right.

So far we've put up nearly $2000 for things like deposits on venues and publicity plans as well as registering for the Adelaide Fringe itself. So whatever happens, we're locked in for the tour. But there's a fair bit to happen between now and then to make the difference between just-another-fringe-show and what we're aiming for - a slick, professional and profitable theatre production.

The actual production has very low running costs, there are no props and a minimal set. We're not paying ourselves as such but running the show as a profit share. Anything we make will be split evenly between the cast. If we get 40% full houses over the week long run, we'll about break-even. We're aiming for a higher audience turnover, which means a smart, targeted publicity campaign to generate buzz.

If we're able to make money it means we can continue to bring the show to audiences around Australia, as well as plan for new works in 2014 and beyond. Anything you can do to help lower the bottom line will be greatly, greatly appreciated.

The Challenges

The biggest risk we have with this project is finding an audience. While the Adelaide Fringe is a major international event attracting worldwide audiences the competition is high to gain a foothold in the market.

To offset this we are working with the team at Holden St Theatres who offer an extensive internal marketing program to reach their established audience base. This is a set marketing package which should ensure a decent amount of pre-show publicity in the context of the festival. Additionally we'll be printing posters and postcards and running a targeted social media strategy to generate some buzz around the show.

The secondary risk for the project is ensuring we have enough funds to cover the running costs of rehearsal and set-up, and to get by comfortably throughout the course of the run. As the immediate costs are coming out of our own pockets, and with your help, we hope to offset this through this fundraising campaign.
