Our Aims

• My name is Roy Stannard and I am a member of the english2theworld team.  
• Our focus is Thailand. We plan to offerThai students, professional and business people, and those working in other industries and occupations, through our website, english2theworld.com, the opportunity to learn English, at their own pace and to their desired level
• At the same time, we intend to ensure that their English tuition is comprehensive and affordable.

Background

• English literacy is a vital resource in Thailand as it is elsewhere in the world. 
• English is the global language of the 21st century. It is the language of IT, international business, tourism, science, medicine and worldwide social interaction.
• In Thailand, the pressure for improved levels of English literacy has increased in recent years, due, in part, to the ever-increasing globalization of commerce, the growing presence of the internet and to the adoption of English as the official language of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).  
• Nevertheless, the level of English literacy in Thailand is among the lowest of the 10 nations in ASEAN and, generally, in Asia.

• Poor command of English is a significant barrier to individual career advancement in Thailand.  
• It is, in particular, a significant issue when undergraduate and postgraduate students, health and other professionals seek further education and employment overseas. 
• High scores on standard tests of English fluency such as theTest of English International Communication (TOEIC) or similar tests are universally required by oversea universities and professional associations. 

• The advent of the internet is a game changer for English language tuition. Good quality audio and video, high interactivity and rapid response rates provide the basis for an effective learning environment that can be utilized anywhere there is internet access. 
• The advantages of online English tuition which include 24/7 availability, individually oriented teaching content and rapid feedback, are clear.
• The english2theworld.com website was developed to take advantage of the educational potential of the internet.  It offers a very viable alternative to language schools in Thailand and elsewhere overseas. 
• And it provides an efficient, timely and cost-effective means of reaching levels of English literacy found in overseas high schools and universities.
• People within the age range 7-34 years comprise approximately 39% of the Thai population  or 27.6 million and are potential subscribers to one of the current english2theworld programs listed below. 

What english2theworld has now

• At present, there are programs suitable for primary and secondary schools, and for university students and professionals in education, health, tourism etc. There is also an introductory starter program for adults with little English.
• Vocabulary building with up to 70 exercises comprising the first 3500 most frequent words in English; with their pronunciation and examples of their use illustrated in short sentences,,  check here
• Rapid word acquisition is aided by the "infotip" technology - an innovative vocabulary help system.  When the mouse is hovered over an English word on a page, a Thai word of the same meaning, drawn from over 12,000 English -Thai words pairs, is displayed.  check here
• Phrase check here and sentence check here generators to help reading and pronunciation and to build familiarity with English usage.
• Extensive writing practice involving 3500 words and sentences  check here
• Many books, articles, stories, fables and dialogs, from beginner to advanced levels. Users are encouraged to use this resource to develop their knowledge of English grammar and to improve their writing style check here 
• A full version of theTest of English International Communication (TOEIC) is available for users to check their English skills against international norms.

• Please note: the above links are to the free version of the website which contains a limited portion of the web site content.

   What needs to be done

        Our website is very nearly complete, but in line with our intention of providing an English literacy website of 

        the highest quality at the lowest cost, accessible to all Thais wishing to learn English, we need to implement:

• a smartphone/tablet ready version - this is most necessary given the fact that the proportion of Thais accessing the internet via smartphones and similar devices is one the highest in Asia, exceeding Malaysia and South Korea. 
• a group subscription module. - this will allow schools, colleges and universities, businesses and government departments to subscribe to the website at a very much-reduced cost per individual student.  We hope this will encourage the use of the website and further drive down the cost of good quality English tuition. 
• additional audio files - to provide examples of speech across the spectrum of American, Australian and British speech patterns.
• a website blog - this will encourage user participation in future web site development and will provide a forum for feedback and discussion.

The funding will be used as follows        

• implementation of the website across laptop (desktop), smartphone and tablet platforms  -- $1500
• implementation of  the group subscription module -- $1000
• audio recordings  -- $400
• blog software -- $100

Total funding requirement  ---  $3000
