Hello!

My name is Rozina. 

I am a Brisbane-based theatre designer, installation artist, arts administrator and maker.

I have been invited to participate in the New Course residency program at Arteles Creative Centre in Finland in May!

But, I need a little bit of help to get there...

It means the world to me that there are people that see me and people that support my work. 

Your help allows me to connect, collaborate and to continue to develop and grow as an artist and mentor and to share with you by way of conversations, audience experiences and connections.

About me.

I started my journey along this crazy creative path in 2002. Seventeen years on and I am still here, still passionate and still making.

My work as a designer for live performance spans theatre, dance, opera, musical theatre, puppetry and outdoor spectacle theatre. I love to collaborate on new works, respond to works in development and try to capture immersive experiences through design.

My installation art practice is driven by exploring human interactions with space, others and the natural world. I love creating meaningful and positive experiences for audiences and am also fascinated by how designed space can drive an audience response.

I also love to make, to mentor, to learn, to support and to connect and collaborate with others. This campaign is about an opportunity to connect, collaborate, learn, create and share.

The Opportunity.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have been granted an opportunity to receive mentorship from a veteran of the arts whose experience spans both the arts and psychology, Dr Margi Brown Ash.

For the month of May 2019, I will live and work at Arteles Creative Centre, alongside 12 international participants from an array of creative disciplines. The residency provides accommodation, a studio, classes, workshops, training and one-on-one sessions.

There will also be opportunities to connect and collaborate with other participants as well as opportunities for mutually beneficial mentorship and space to research and experiment with some new ideas.

Plus, it’s in remote Finland, wow!

The Budget.

Funds raised from this campaign will be put towards the residency fees. If I meet my initial target (AU$1090), my stretch target (AU $1890) will assist with additional travel costs and art materials.

NEW ADDITION 22/04 - And, if the campaign goes significantly over... there is the possibility of adding a trip to Prague to attend a couple of days at the Prague Quadrennial exhibition for performance design. I honestly didn't think it would get to this... but now it's looking likely...

Here is a breakdown of the budget as it currently stands:

Residency Fees                                   $ 3,380.00

Return Flights & Travel Insurance     $ 2,494.00 

Land Travel & Living Expenses          $ 1,000.00

Art Materials                                        $    150.00

Total                                                      $ 7,024.00

+ PENDING... Prague Quadrennial Trip (3 days)     $ 900.00   (flights, accomodation, living expenses and 3 day exhibition pass)                  

The Challenges.

To take advantage of this incredible opportunity! 

The residency isn't subsidised and doesn't come with any attached funding.

I applied for a couple of grants (in December and Janury) but haven't heard a peep so have been taking matters into my own hands. 

I have been working away and saving to try and afford this fantastic trip and am getting close...

What I need help with is the last installment of the residency fees. Any additional funds will go towards travel costs and art materials.  I've booked flights via Dublin also so I can visit my family at the end of the residency whilst I'm over in that part of the world. It's been twelve years.

I would also like to acknowledge a private donation I received in late January that assisted me with the residency deposit. This was so appreciated. 

And my parents and adopted fairy godmother whose support in recent years has meant I have been able to continue my work in the arts. For this, I am very grateful.
