Fashion jewellery is often poorly designed and mass produced, encouraging the use of inexpensive and environmentally damaging techniques and materials, enabling a throwaway culture. Let’s change that.

Driven by a love of design, fashion and the natural environment, it is my aim to create jewellery that doesn’t budge on great design and environmental integrity.

Pieces from the re:jewellery label are designed and made by me (Ruth Evenhuis) in Hobart, Tasmania. My jewellery is created from laser cut stainless steel, which has been filed, bent and manipulated by hand before being powder coated locally. I use traditional silversmithing techniques to create components for my pieces from 100% recycled sterling silver.


The Pozible campaign aims to raise money to go towards the manufacture of the new season range titled Temperate Coastal. It will also help to raise the profile of my label, widening the market for re:jewellery. Money raised will go towards the launch party for re:jewellery, to be held on Saturday the 14th of November, 2015, exactly one year since I began the label. At this launch party, the new season of jewellery will be unveiled and available for sale at special prices before being sold online on Monday the 16th of November.

Since November 2014, I opened the digital doors to re:jewellery and have been selling my first collection of cuffs, bracelets, necklaces and crowns titled NATIVES IN DISGUISE to Australia online. In March I started selling re:jewellery at ecoHaven and in May I ventured into the world of market stall life and I haven’t looked back! With a magazine feature coming up (!!!) and lots of design markets applied for, I believe that re:jewellery has the potential to grow and develop into a label that showcases emerging Australian fashion jewellery design that values fashion, great design and environmental integrity, pushing what can be achieved with stainless steel.

After months of preparation, hard work and general hustle, I’m ready to bring Temperate Coastal to you, but I need your support to make this new step in my small business a reality.

All the money pledged for this project goes to the manufacture of the jewellery and the preparations that need to be done for the launch party.

To help make the new range of jewellery:
$750 for laser cutting
$450 for the powder coating
$250 for purchase of recycled sterling silver
$50 for purchase of jewellery-making consumables

To host an amazing launch party:
$200 towards advertising and marketing
$500 for food and drinks on the night

TOTAL = $2200

I have and will be contributing to the campaign:
$450 - towards a video, photoshoot and images for marketing
$150 - towards advertising and marketing - invitations and posters
$110 - Pozible fees (5% of the target goal)

As part of this campaign I have applied for Crowbar Arts Tas funding, which means that IF I reach my goal and get 10 supporters or more, I will receive up to $1,100 to assist further in the project.

100% of CROWBAR funding will be put towards the rent of my studio space, which will help me greatly! This will enable me to focus on experimentation and design. Rather than feeling like I need to pump out new things that will sell so that I can pay my studio fees, I can really engage in creativity. It is a goal of mine in 2016 to delve into metal object design. I also want to enter as many contemporary jewellery competitions as I can, pushing the boundaries of powder-coated stainless steel and showing the world what can be achieved by using these industrial techniques to create jewellery.

A lot of work goes into creating a piece of jewellery and it can be an expensive and time consuming process. I face harsh competition in a market where many of my competitors create ‘fine’ and ‘fashion’ jewellery en masse overseas using cheap labour, often made from precious metals from untraceable mines, or from inexpensive, ‘throwaway’ materials that discolour and deteriorate quickly with age. Given that I will not budge on my core beliefs, I have had to ensure that my business model reflected this. The processes and materials that re:jewellery uses must be of the highest quality.

At present I have the concepts and designs, but I need your help to raise the funds for me to strengthen re:jewellery and invest in laser cutting, powder coating and launch party costs.
