International cross-artform collective Any Kind Of Creature presents Life As It Should Be. Please help them raise funds to fly from Amsterdam to Australia to perform the show Life As It Should Be at the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2015, to pay the professional artists that will be working with them and to undertake a residency to create a new work!
Hello! We are Any Kind Of Creature and we are a performance collective based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We consist of three artists;
Ryan Williams, a musician, Charlotte ten Raa, a visual artist and Leyla de Muynck, a dancer
Unfortunately Ryan recently moved back to his home city in Melbourne, Australia. Because of this our group is now physically very far apart. We really want to get together again as a group to perform and to continue working.
This year we decided to bring our most recent show Life As It Should Be to the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
We’ve sorted everything out already: we will be performing in the Melbourne Fringe Festival, in an empty office space with professional guest artists from Australia.
Unfortunately we don't have the financial resources to make it all happen. So WE NEED YOUR HELP!
With your donations we will fly to Australia, undertake a residency to create a new work and pay the professionals that are willing to work with us, like the musicians, the technicians and the stage builders.
We will give you our love and eternal thankfulness and we have prepared a variety of nice gifts depending upon your donation.
Please help us get together so we can be Any Kind Of Creature.
THE SHOW
Life As It Should Be is a performance installation about deep sea life. Or maybe it’s about mountain climbing. It’s about the desire to keep on climbing up higher and steeper slopes into unknown places.
Join international cross-artform collective Any Kind Of Creature on a journey through mundane and simple spaces that have been transformed into visual and sonic playgrounds.
Projected fish and hanging squid will be squirming, crabs will be dancing and giant squid and sperm whales will be fighting to the death. Each scene is accompanied by distorted recorders, tape-loops and fuzzy guitars being spewed from boomboxes and junk audio. With a narrative based on real travel blogs, they conjure the risk of the unknown.
With their first performance in Australia Any Kind Of Creature will take their audience on a trip into the depths of the world.
'During the performance they managed to make me feel happy, relaxed, discorded, scared and awkward. This performance was really fringy like a real Fringe would say' - Antwerp Fringe Festival
THE RESIDENCY (@ The Abbotsford Convent tbc)
Any Kind Of Creature will be undertaking a residency to develop their new show Black Holes in Open Spaces. They will also be performing a showing of their work at the end of the residency.
During the residency Any Kind Of Creature will explore the latest research that scientists have uncovered about black holes.
They are currently working with top black hole researcher Thomas Russell at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research in Perth.
Via Thomas’ guidance the collective will gain the new insights into black holes and will explore the human desire to discover far away places. The research for Black Holes in Open Spaces continues the themes of Life As It Should Be, which include the longing for traveling to and becoming familiar with far away places.
Any Kind Of Creature is currently in the middle of their research period with Thomas. During October 2015 the collective will work intensively together for one month to develop all the research and work that has been done into a performance piece.
In het Nederlands:
Hier volgt een korte uitleg in het Nederlands.
Kunst collectief Any Kind Of Creature presenteert u Life As It Should Be.
Help hen hun voorstelling Life As It Should Be naar het Melbourne Fringe festival te krijgen!
Life As It Should Be is een voorstelling over wanderlust. De drang om verre plekke te verkennen en nieuwe werelden te ontdekken. In de voorstelling nemen we het publiek mee door 7 kamers. In elke kamer is er een andere installatie gebouwd met een nieuwe scene. We hebben Life As It Should Be vorig jaar opgetreden in het Antwerp Fringe Festival en in Amsterdam in een oude verffabriek.
Liefs, Any Kind Of Creature

The Challenges
This project is a major undertaking. To reunite artistic colleagues from as far away as Amsterdam to Australia to perform and create together takes many hours of blood, sweat and tears. We have the privileged position to have jobs that create artworks that we hope entice and inspire a broad audience.
Unfortunately for all these hours of work (emailing, phone calls, skyping at 3:00am, meetings, convincing arts presenters that your cool idea is the best, applying for arts grants, performing, rehearsing, months and months of developing new works) we often receive no funding to survive day to day and to actually do everything our job entails. Your donation puts a smile on our faces as we know with your support it will allow this artwork to be seen and heard.
No matter what, we will be performing at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and undertaking a residency to develop a new work for the first time in Melbourne, Australia.
Thank you for your support.
