HELP US MAKE A RECORDING OF "7 Great Inventions of the Modern Industrial Age" WITH SYZYGY ENSEMBLE
In 2016 I had the unique and rare opportunity to create a large scale dramatic work, The 7 Great Inventions of the Modern Industrial Age, as a result of receiving the inaugural Merlyn Myer Composing Women's Award, co-developed by the Myer Foundation and Melbourne Recital Centre.
Unfolding through the lense of an intrepid zeppelin-travelling reporter and six musical automatons, the work explores the astounding surge in human ingenuity and invention during the 20th Century: our incredible advances in science, medicine, communications, aviation, computing, cinematography... and warfare. These innovations changed the world forever.
The work has received high praise, particularly the music score: "Greenaway's compositions are as imaginative and emotively alluring as the wonder of an age of unprecedented innovation" and won the "Instrumental Work of the Year" State Award category at the 2017 APRA Art Music Awards.
My goal is to record the music score to create a CD/digital release, but to also incorporate these recordings into education resources for secondary schools, developing a much-needed Australian Music education kit for teachers and students.
YOUR DONATION WILL GO TOWARDS THE RECORDING COSTS OF THE MUSIC.
ANY FUNDS RAISED ABOVE THE TARGET WILL BE USED TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION RESOURCES.
WHO IS SALLY GREENAWAY?
Sally Greenaway (b. 1984) is an Australian composer and freelance pianist, musical director and teacher based in the ACT. She works in a very diverse range of musical circles, from our country’s most prestigious orchestras and soloists to Canberra’s local schools and community music scenes. She produces work that explores jazz and classical music contexts (and beyond).
WHO IS SYZYGY?
"... their musicianship is unparalleled."
Syzygy Ensemble is one of Australia’s finest 'new music' ensembles, lauded for their virtuoso precision, innovative programming, and ability to connect viscerally with their audiences. The musicians of Syzygy Ensemble share a deep empathy with music of our own time as well as an unbridled desire to share this enthusiasm with audiences, taking them on a journey into the world of living composers and their music, which speaks to all of us with relevance to our time. Since winning first prize in the chamber music section of the Australian Concerto and Vocal competition in 2010, Syzygy has gone on to tour, perform, mentor and educate all around the country, unearthing the best and most exciting music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We have an outstanding Australian music label, Move Records, on board, Syzygy is ready to go and my flights are booked! We just need to find an extra $4,500 to make this project happen! Please donate as little or as much as you can - every little bit helps, and if you donate $75 or more, you will be pre-ordering your very own copy of the CD.
Please help us to record and release this amazing music!
Budget Overview
Making a high quality recording is expensive, but we have a fantastic team with Move Records and Syzygy on board to see the project through. I just need a bit more to help cover the remaining Artists fees and to contribute towards the recording production costs.
Potential Challenges
Together Syzygy Ensemble, Move Records and I have invested a lot of our own funds into getting this project off the ground. So, we just need to raise $4,500 more!
And if we exceed our funding target, the extra funds will go directly into supporting the creation of education resources for schools across Australia to learn about Australian music, our shared history and our innovators.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
