A First Feature Film
The Last Goodbye
INTRO After working in film for close to 20 years, as both an actor and an award winning short film director, ‘The Last Goodbye’ is Samantha Rebillet's first feature film as writer/director. Recently shot on a shoe-string budget and on location in Paris (@ November 2012), it is an independent film with a focus on the festival market. It is being produced by Donna Sennett.
PLOT Heart-felt and emotional, the film follows the journey of a young and delicate beauty who travels to Paris to reunite with her estranged mother. They have not seen each other for seven years, and have to work at finding harmony and a natural bond. Both originally from Australia, Stella is an angelic late teen (Natasha Bassett) and Bianca a forcibly fabulous forty year old (Samantha Rebillet).
TECH 'The Last Goodbye' was shot on an Epic Red camera by long-time collaborator Velinda Wardell and her loyal camera department. The Paris volunteers were sourced through the international film school EICAR. Post production is to be completed in Sydney in 2013, with Ceinwen Berry as editor and Ilan Kidron as composer.
CAST Natasha Bassett has thrown herself into all things drama for the past six years, acting and writing being her main focuses. She spent three years honing her craft working on productions at ATYP, participating in both the performing and collective writing of shows. Her screen credits include MTV’s TV MovieDungoona in which she played the lead role of a country girl, ABC’sLaid, Nine’sCop’s LAC, Seven’sWild Boys,ABC’s Rake for the TV, and diverse film roles in AFTRS’Culling and PJ Hogan’s upcoming filmMental. Natasha spent the winter season this year studying at the prestigious Atlantic Acting School, in New York City. She is currently in post-production for a self-written short filmKite, which she also directed this year, thanks to winning funding from the Metro Screen’s First Breaks Funding Scheme. Natasha speaks fluent French and hopes to incorporate this skill into her acting and writing for 2012 and beyond.
Samantha Rebillet is an established film director and sometime performer. She has actor credits in several features ('Going Down', 'Heatwave', 'Cosi') and TV drama ('All Saints', 'Murder Call', 'Water Rats') plus modelled in many a high end advertisement. In her twenties she moved into production as director’s assistant to Alex Proyas ('Garage Days', 'iRobot'), and has since directed a host of short films and documentaries, a TV series pilot, TV commercials and music videos. Her shorts have been far from minor, shot on both 16mm and 35mm and collaborating with some immense Australian talent (Russell Boyd as DoP on 'The Birthday', Mia Wasikowska as the lead in 'Cosette'). Her films have picked up major awards and screened at over twenty international festivals. She has been on the selection committee for other significant film festivals, sat on the board of the Australian Director’s Guild, and nominated as Student Council Representative while studying her Masters in Drama Directing at AFTRS. Samantha has recently returned to front of camera/stage, singing in the electro jazz pop outfit 'The Freaks in Love' with her musical sweetheart Ilan Kidron. She still models on occasion ('Freaks' were the front for SABA in 2011), and is currently in development on two feature projects, while doing a Doctorate of Creative Arts at the University of Technology, Sydney.
