Samassin's 3rd Album!
We are Samassin...
Samassin has been performing Kirsty Pittman’s compositions for 9 years. This lush, cinematic, world fusion music, is a heady mix of jazz and art music with strong folk roots, and Indian, African, and Middle Eastern influences. We had the pleasure in late 2022 of recording our third album at Rollingstock Recording Rooms in Collingwood, and like the preceding two albums was expertly recorded mixed and mastered by Tomas Strode.

This has been a labour of love, and deep inspiration throughout the entirety of the pandemic, by no means rushed, as there was no incentive, at the time, to getting it finished quickly!
This is a suite of six interlocking pieces. “Is All Not One? Six Paramitas”
Dana - Generosity
Sila - Joyful Practice
Ksanti - Patience
Virya -Energy
Dhyana-Focus
Prajna -Wisdom and Acceptance)
Written between 2019 – 2022. This is almost 60 mins of rich and emotive music that aims to explores the extremes of human emotions as it explores the six perfections of Buddhism, through the lens of a post pandemic world with tumultuous global tensions and strained relationship with technology.
I believe music and improvisation to be a transcendent art form, and therefore was to me an appropriate way to explore the depths of these 'perfections.'
Also included with this concept album is bonus 10 min track; single “Agneya- Daughter of the Fire God. This was written during the Black Summer bushfires and depicts a day in the life of a forest in SE Australia. In this tone poem intense dry crackling heat moves to raging fire and then soaking rain with thunderstorm.
All music is written for Samassin who comprises :
Kirsty Pittman, composer of the works, Guitar, bass, pedals and vocals
Belinda Woods, Alto Flute, Flute
Justin/Jar Lim, Bass Clarinet, Clarinet
Daniel Hoban, Guitar, Darabuka, Ceramic Dahola, Tar, Daf
Chris Lewis, Drum Kit
The album artwork is “Fire and Flood” by Jenny Parkes, Daniel’s mother who is no longer here with us. She was a very great supporter of the first two albums and this album is dedicated to her memory.

The single cover photo was taken by David Stern on a property in the Bega Valley just after the black summer bushfires had gone through.

The album has now been mastered and is ready for release. All mixing/mastering and recording expenses so far have been self funded. Now we just need to let you know about this music release so that you can download and enjoy it!
If you are in Melbourne, there will be a launch on Sunday 7th May (afternoon) at The Good Shephard Chapel in Abbotsford supported by Melbourne Amplified Strings and presented by The Boite. This will be followed by another launch at a later date for those who could not make the first.
By showing your support not only will you be a true arts philanthropist, but you will be rewarded with one of our exciting rewards: be first to listen to our album, have a personal concert at your house or perhaps a unique, Samassin T shirt or guitar/composition lesson.
We are not trying to raise a large amount as we want a simple campaign, and this will mainly cover the production expense. However if we go above the target it will go towards paying these great musicians!
How The Funds Will Be Used
We are not trying to raise a large amount as we want a simple campaign, to alert our supporters of this new release.
If this campaign is successful this will go toward covering the production expense which was $2000 for recording, mixing and mastering, promotion and paying musicians.
We are so so grateful for your support and interest in this project and hope you enjoy the music.
Love,
Kirsty and Samassin
.
