Dusk is an 11 minute short film which can be best described as an exploration of self love and self worth, loneliness, acceptance, false love through desperation and the basic human need to connect shown though one women's perspective.

I felt a lot of emotions at the time of writing this script. The views and the exceptions placed on women by society has always simultaneously fascinated and disgusted me. This frustration influenced the film along with my own personal experiences as a woman who struggled with feeling lonely, looking different in peoples eyes, and longing to be loved by others.

I believe society has a lot to answer for in regards to how everyday women see themselves. The image of the ideal woman is always under scrutiny. How women especially the women with celebrity tags are portrayed in different mediums (magazines, music videos, advertising) sets the benchmark for which everyday women measures themselves against and it is usually a benchmark that is set too high and is clearly unrealistic.

We are always shown the content characters in commericals and on TV programs, happy women who have a stable group of friends to talk to, think Sex and the City and more recently, Winners and Losers.

Loneliness is a myth according to media. I mean who wants to see an advertisement of a women drinking alone in a bar staring at her wine glass hoping someone will speak to her soon (unless she has on a low cut dress, sex oozing from her eyes while leaning over the bar) when we can see a group of women, smiling, laughing and drinking together in a bar, dressed so that they are appealing to the eye. The latter is what the media sells us and that is what we buy into, despite the fact that most of us don't have that kind of reality.

Dusk incorporates themes that I feel need to be talked about more openly; loneliness and self esteem being the major issues explored and I believe that this film has a universal message which we can all relate to.

The Challenges

The only obstacles to sucess I can see for this film is financial, my plan is to raise enough funds to help get Dusk out there to the festivals it needs to be part of.
