RAIN: art for babies

What is "Rain"?

This is a brand new, never before seen installation performance for babies and their carers. It will premiere at Artplay in Melbourne during February 2013.

Together, Drop Bear Theatre and The Seam are creating a unique experience that:

-welcomes babies to the world
-honours and celebrates new lives
-gives time to wonder and wander in the rhythm of the rain.

Audiences will be invited to experience a performed installation that responds to the generosity of rain while exploring together water’s elemental connection between parent and child. Carers and their littlest ones will be immersed in an intimate and mindful installation space which surprises and delights through sound, touch and performance.

Why are we asking for support?

At the moment, we only have enough money to pay the 2 performers and 4 installation artists for this project.

However, since starting rehearsals, we have realised that we are missing MUSIC. From our workshops and experience, we know that live music connects with babies in a special way.

We want to be able to pay Edwina Cordingley, an incredibly talented cellist, to write a score and play live cello for the performances.

Why would you donate?

1. You will be supporting art for our youngest audiences
2. You will make us very HAPPY!
3. You will bring music to the ears of babies.

Who are the artists behind "Rain"?

The Seam is a Melbourne based collaboration that creates site specific and participative installations. Drawing on a multi-disciplinary art practice, The Seam explore the space between shared experience and invite others to pause, notice and be immersed in a quiet visual world.

Behind The Seam are Liz Francis, Alicia Stafford, Nikita Burt and Mardi Thorpe.

Drop Bear Theatre create theatre for young audiences that is joyful, innovative, complex and witty.
