in may 2013 we invited Studio Artists,http://youtu.be/WcSVw6LAbUs a collective that have emerged from Studio-Artes (an independent, non profit arts organisation for both recreational and vocational services with disabled adults based in hornsby) to visit our workshop to play and explore our world. (our world being that of Erth visual and physical inc , sydney based theatre makers with a primary focus on puppetry of grand and intimate scale)

on that day we leapt into the void of the unknown and discovered something none of us had anticipated. in a moment we found ourselves laughing and crying, bursting with excitment and abandonment without a care in the world where darkness and light danced hand in hand to the beat of a very new drum. it was liberating as puppets were created on the spot, performances emerged from fantasy as we blurred the edges between the apparent professional and emerging artists
WE WANT TO DO THIS AGAIN...... but this time we want to do it for a week and invite guests to see the results. To witness a new space where each artist is equal, where there are no rules to restrain us, throwing puppetry, mask, music, projection and installation into a big pot, stirring it up and serving it to those who dare to enter our brave new world.
to this extent we need funds to pay for rehearsal space, technical support and wages for our visiting friends. The latter being critical to this exercise as it promotes and emphasises that we are all artists together and that this is in no way a recreational experience.
blank canvas will commence the week of August 26 with a public outcome anticipated for friday 30th and saturday 31st. Hosted at CarriageWorks, Sydney NSW
btw: we'll also be setting up a pop up art exhibition for the duration of the project. all art will be for sale and supports the artists and studio artes.
note: a project like this is always going to be driven by passion but extra funds will help lubricate the outcomes. we've opted for an achievable amount to be pledged but every little bit counts, we'd love to see it doubled so that we can equip ourselves with everything we need to document and support this wonderful grass roots project. we also would like to recognize that the catalyst for this project was thanks to another existing project supported by ARTS NSW
