Project Update 19.11.12
I am delighted to announce that Wall of Seahorsel has reached its funding target with just over two days to spare! An enormous thank you to everyone who has helped us reach our goal. We are delighted!
And now we have the opportunity to push things even further. Any donations received between today and the closing date will help fund a larger print run of the Wall of Seahorsel catalogue. We're now aiming for a run of 500 copies (as opposed to 300) so there's still time to contribute to the project, you have until December 22nd....
Greetings
I'm Serena Bentley, an art writer and curator based in Melbourne. I'm curating Wall of Seahorsel - an exhibition of new and recent work by New Zealand photographer Yvonne Todd that opens at the Centre of Contemporary Photography on February 9th 2012. This will be Yvonne's first solo exhibition in Melbourne.
I need your help
To create a brilliant new catalogue to accompany the exhibition. We're not talking about a modest photocopied printout, no no - this will be a slick little production. Designed by Area Design, Wall of Seahorsel, the catalogue, will be an A5, 46-page full colour affair featuring an in-depth interview between Yvonne Todd and myself along with full-page images of each of the works in the show. There are 2 series involved, both reproduced in full. They are: The Wall of Man (2009) and Seahorsel (2011), that has never been seen before. Not only does the publication complement the exhibition, it's also a beautiful, considered introduction to Yvonne's practice - perfect for recent converts and longstanding fans alike.
Donate!
Of course a publication like this doesn't come cheap. The design costs alone are over $2,000. On top of this is paper stock, printing, freight, it all adds up. Which is why I need your assistance. No matter how modest the amount, please donate and help create this valuable publication - it's a book that you can keep pride of place on your bookshelf, knowing that your contribution made it all possible.
Treats
And of course I wouldn't be asking these things of you without offering anything in return. Along with my sincere gratitude (and I do mean that), there are a number of great rewards available - including the chance to win copies of the catalogue - and even original works - signed by the artist herself. For a full list of treats, check out the panel on the right. Then of course there's the opening of the show at the CCP on Thursday the 9th of February, 2012. So if you're in Melbourne, I hope to see you all there too.
And remember...
In order for my project to be successful, I need to meet (or exceed) my $4,500 target. If not, I don't get anything. So please donate and help me reach my goal.
