Enucleo - contemporary clay

Welcome to Enucleo!
Enucleo started in 2012 when Serena had an idea that grew out of control in her head until she realised she had to call Patrick on a Sunday afternoon to tell him about it. Patrick has never quite forgiven Serena, for the fact is that he was planning a quiet night in watching Grand Designs in his novelty slippers.
It wasn’t to be, and Enucleo was born. (Ok, we know it’s a weird title but we like it. Get your hands on one of awesome catalogues if you want to figure out why.)

So two soon-to-be Honours graduates set themselves their first ever professional curatorial project and launched into it with a fair amount of naivety balanced with a good dose of determination. Now, almost a year later, we are launching our Pozible campaign to help cover the costs of bringing the work of some of Australia’s most exciting artists who are working with clay to Tasmanian for an exhibition that started out ambitious, and has ended up becoming a brilliant reality. In other words, we aimed high and all of these awesome artists said “yeah, of course, I’d love to be in your show” but we have found that achieving such lofty heights comes at a price! Funds raised through this project wont cover all of our costs, but will help supplement the money coming out of our own pockets for things such as freight (all works are from mainland Australia plus one to be returned to Spain), insurances and catalogue production.

The basic idea for the exhibition is that we have chosen work by artists who use clay in ways that isn’t mainstream in how they treat the clay and/or the way they display it.
Or here is the art-speak translation if you prefer:
Enucleo is being designed to present a divergent scope of contemporary approaches to ceramic art and assemble work that combines unique conceptual premise unrestrained by established processes. Our exhibition will question the agency of ceramic art and the aspects of the ultimate audience engagement with it that are denied, or provided, by conventional presentation. The assembly of diverse yet equally important works will be exhibited in order to contribute to the discourse that explores ceramics as a medium in a constant state of flux within creative culture.
Cool, right? We think so and we hope you do too.

To check out the show head to 146 Artspace @ 146 Elizabeth Street, Hobart, Tasmania, 1-29 August or Sawtooth ARI, Level 2, 160 Cimitiere Street, Launceston, Tasmania Sept 6 – 28, 2013.
Oh, and we made ourselves a good old Facebook page where we’ve been bragging about the aforementioned awesome artists, so head on over there to see the full list (and don’t forget to LIKE the page while you’re there). https://www.facebook.com/EuncleoContemporaryClay
