DEEP FRY
'Deep Fry' is a science fiction love story set in a post apocalyptic world in the year 2083. Written and directed by VCA film student Shaun Garland, the story was inspired by the alien like fish from the depths of our ocean and surf music from the 60's.
The story explores an obsessive relationship (based on the mating ritual of the Deep Sea Anglerfish) through three twenty-something, Fellini-esque characters who traverse through an industrial landscape between the ocean and the perennial Australian ‘Fish & Chip’ shop.
Issues concerning our environment are a continuing theme throughout Shaun’s work, that is, subtly highlighting environmental issues and introducing thought provoking images with far reaching implications should we ignore the signs now. The world of ‘Deep Fry’ is a result of greed and global warming that has led to rising sea levels and limited biodiversity.
This is a love story that encompasses not only the human condition but is born of a deep love and concern for the earth and the future of the planet.
We have embarked in this funding campaign to build production value for the film. Surrounded by wonderful creative individuals with a wealth of ideas and energy, your contribution is vital to seeing the cast and crew fed and scurvy free at the very least. We are committed to ensuring the cast and crew (all of whom will be volunteering their time and expertise) are well cared for in the “Deep Fry” process. Those of you with film making experience are no doubt acutely aware of the extreme physical and mental anguish filmmaking can be and however small the budget, makes the project possible. Even if you cannot personally chip in with cash, let your people know what we are up to and spread the Deep Fry word.
