Shifty Lizard

The Beginning

Shifty Lizard started some time in 2015 when Lee (our main man) couldn't find  a good name linked with his last name (Stone) that hadn't already been used before in the beer industry! The moment it went from a hobby to a serious venture, was when he turned to long time friend in Danny for some help with a logo. This was almost 2 years ago now, in that time both Lee and Danny have been working tirelessly towards perfecting recipes, graphics, setting up the brewery and basically getting the company off the ground!

The Boys

Lee Stone. A man who spent his twenties in London working for large beer companies and consuming large amounts of it too! Once returning to the home land, he started to brew his own and plunged into the world of craft beer. A passionate man to say the least, just ask his mates... "if you don't want to hear endless hours of rambling about brewing, steer clear of asking anything about it" explains Danny!

Danny Strapps. The creative guy behind the Shifty Lizard brand. A professional artist / illustrator at times and a designer by day. He spent most of his twenties travelling the world and what he calls "knowledge building". Now full of "knowledge" he has turned his attention to making the Shifty Lizard brand stand out amongst the rest, and helping Lee taste test the latest beers!

The Future

The long term vision for Shifty is to supply our beer nation wide in the first 18 months. From there we will look to build our own brewery/restaurant in the Mclaren Vale region. We love where we come from and want to add another dimension to the area with another quality establishment for the punters to enjoy. From great stouts and dark ales in the colder winter months, to the hot months of summer and session ales and long dinners well into the night!

The Beers

The first recipe will be our Frills Pale ale - A Pale Ale that takes you away with a light tropical aroma and flavour balanced perfectly with a hint of malt. The citrus tones at the tail end will bring you back and have you asking for more. A complex beer that Shifty and Frills have crafted together over time for you and your mates.... or just you! Our Pale ale will be the recipe we will initially move forward with and contract brew.

The second will be the Komodo IPA - This hop bomb packs a big pine, floral and citrus punch. A left hook for aroma and a right hook for flavour. It includes the freshest hops and a strong malty backbone.  At 6.5% it is all you need to end your day strong!

Lee will continue to brew the IPA in our own brewery.

Other beers in the pipeline are the session IPA and a stout which will hopefully be ready by next winter!

It is against the law to sell or supply alcohol to, or to obtain alcohol on behalf of, a person under the age of 18 years.

With all our hard earned cash going towards setting up the brewery and licensing and all the hidden costs of starting up a brewery we now hope to draw on the good people of Australia and the craftbeer community to help us make the next step.

Now we are fresh off the ranks and you can find us in selected venues across Adelaide, we want to get our beers out to more of you. To do this we will be partnering up with one of Adelaide's biggest and best breweries to do just that. This however comes at a cost (see chart below)... and that's where you come in!

Our plan is to use the money to get our Pale Ale into cans and kegs to distrubute state wide. Our IPA will still be in the traditional bottle form and brewed in our brewery. By doing this, Lee will have a little more time on his hands to work on those next recipes for you to look forward to drinking while sitting back with your feet up!

Starting a business is always hard, and takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears (sometimes some minor disagreements too!). This venture has been no different. The distance between us (Lee and the brewery in Adelaide and Danny in Melbourne) has made a lot of small things take that little bit longer and make us work that little bit harder... But this is just the beginning, and we are willing to put everything we have into this to get our beers into your hands time and time again!
