Support Simone’s professional development project.

I’m Simone, a dancer, choreographer and performance artist based in Melbourne, Australia. I am about to embark on a 2 month professional development period throughout the UK and Europe. I have been fortunate enough to be selected for four key development opportunities from August to October 2012 in London, France and Germany. The opportunity to build cross-cultural relationships, enrich my creative practice and build an international profile is invaluable.

The professional development project is made up of the following four placements

1. ‘The Ephemeral Body’ solo work performed at Debut Contemporary in London.

My solo dance work titled “The Ephemeral Body’ has been selected to be performed at Debut Contemporary in London. Debut Contemporary is gallery space and arts hub that acts as a platform for discovering, mentoring and supporting talent in contemporary art. Here ‘The Ephemeral Body’ will be performed in the gallery space as a durational solo piece over an 8 hour period. The work was devised in 2011 as the major project presentation in a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance Creation (Choreography) at the VCA in Melbourne. The work was first seeded by a workshop I attended with internationally acclaimed choreographer and performer Ros Warby.

  1. 2. Residency at ‘Space’, London. Mentorship with Carolin Salem.

A summer residency is offered at ‘Space’ under the guidance of choreographer and mentor Caroline Salem. I am a founding partner of Double Adapter, a collaborative partnership with circus artist Tayo Wilson. Tayo Wilson is performing alongside the London Olympics until early August, at which time he and I will meet and partake in the residency at Space. Our time at Space is appointed to examining the relationship beteween circus arts and contemporaty dance, and the resulting cross pollonation of content, processes, physical vocabulary and intent. From the Summer Redicency at Space, we wish to experiment with weight transferring techniques, partnering, and transitions from ground to air with areial straps. The resulting work will be brought back to be performed throughout Australia.

  1. 3. Omeo workshop in France with Rosalind Crisp and Andrew Morrish.

I have been accepted into a 6 day workshop with Omeo Dance at Lyon/Saint Julien Molin Molette, France. The workshop focuses on solo performance improvisation and is led by improvisation artists Rosalind Crisp and Andrew Morrish. I have worked with both artists in Australia in 2011 where rich creative relationships were formed. This workshop will enable me to foster these cross-cultural relationships and encourage an international network.

4. Motion Bank Workshop at The Forsythe Company, Frankfurt Germany.

In October 2012 the Forsythe Company, Motion Bank are holding professional development workshops. I will be attending Workshop no. 4 with Antonia Baehr, a leading name in the European contemporary dance and performance scene. She is a performer and choreographer, filmmaker and dramaturge. This will be the final stage of my development period,.

Financial support.

The project as a whole is budgeted at $8 500.00. I am hoping to raise $2 500.00 through Pozible to aid the administrative costs of the placements. I must reach this target goal to receive the funds. So every dollar helps!

Debut Contemporary performance, London- $600.00

Residency at Space in London - $800.00

Omeo Workshop, France - $650.00

Motion Bank workshop at The Forsythe Company, Germany - $450.00
