Why does Slit need some moola?
Slit is in production to the 15th issue themed Simulacra after a three year break.

Up until this issue, the print costs of Slit have been met by sales of the magazine. But sadly, the global financial crisis’s affect on Slit’s US distributor has meant there is money owing to Slit for the last two issues. This means Slit is down $2100 for the printing of this issue. Please throw some dosh towards paying these print costs! 

Slit magazine is a not for profit mag, where no one gets paid except the printers and Australia Post. It funds itself through sales (direct and through book shops), as well as parties.

What the money will be used for
It will be used for printing issue 15 of Slit: the Simulacra issue.

This new issue 15 of Slit is looking totally amazing!

Walk into the simulated reality of the Simulacra issue, where the Brown Council destabilise history with their feminist parody drawing attention to the absence of female performance artists in the historical record, Tina Fiveash inserts imaginary romantic scenes into 50s and 60s settings, present day counter culture rewards sex worker positive activism with the Whore of the Year awards (with interviews with winners Mish Glitter Pony and Jules Kim). The issue adopts a reflexive approach to digitally created realities: Jenny Fraser’s ‘name that movie’ video project reframes key movie scenes in terms of their embedded colonial messages, Marit Ostberg reflects on porn films as beyond that which appears on the screen but as a special kind of sexual practice and Willurei Kirkbright of Plump Gallery considers art making, ethics and community. The issue is also packed full of (playful) homages: to Amelia Earhardt, Ken Done, the Slits, a Barbie Planet, and more; as well discussion with our (are we seeing double infinity?) centrefold Regrette Etcetera about the issues that arises in homages and monumentalising practices. The issue also abounds with twin fascination, with bio and faux twin love and hugs :)
