Living With Axel is a comedy web series aimed at your funny balls. Jason just got dumped. Again. Mostly because he's a directionless chode, even if he's really very sweet. Jason wants to win his girlfriend back. Depressed and unsure what to do next, he turns to Axel, his pet axolotl. Axel understands the ladies, and between puffs of the green stuff, imparts his watery wisdom to the flailing Uni student. This is all killing time while Axel secretly plans his daring escape.

This is where the story begins. Where it ends it up to you.

Living With Axel is a 6-part web series made to make you laugh. It's aimed at blokes who like frat humour - Judd Apatow getting high with Brian and Peter Griffin. It's unashamedly rude, but tells a sweet little tale of a boy learning to grow up and take some damn responsibility, and his wet fishy friend who just wants the freedom to party.

We've already shot a pilot so you can see how it looks. We have our scripts written, and like the best stuff we've done, it's been redrafted five times to get it right. If we reach our goal of $10,000, we'll pay the talented freelancers we work with regularly in our corporate video production day jobs, to make sure we get a great product as we shoot all six eps and turn it around nice and fast.

Why You Idiots Doing This?

We're making this because we love comedy. We're making Axel as a web series because that's the future. Funny or Die, College Humour and Yahoo have already realised they can do well from these, so it's time for Australians to support the format for some home grown laughs.

Pozible and other crowd funding platforms are doing so well in Australia because the gatekeepers who fund content here are notorious for funding only the artsy and the safe (Beautiful Kate, Packed to the Rafters, Strange Bedfellows, The Wedge).

We think Australian audiences are speaking up with Pozible, funding things they actually want to see. We've only ever wanted to make what you want to see. We don't want to win awards, we want to win the audience. That's why we've made a sexy, silly something that would appeal to us, but also to a broad range of guys and gals who love a giggle. We're influenced by the results of The Groundlings and Upright Citizens Brigade, 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation, Anchorman and Superbad, Family Guy, English comedy like The Office, Extras, Spaced and the Mighty Boosh, Adult Swim, the web series Burning Love, Onion's Sex House, Children's Hospital.

Web series are the way forward. They allow us to bypass the limitations of our small population and limited funding opportunities, and get stuff out to the whole world. We're balls deep passionate about this.

Here's the thing: this is only one step for us. Axel is a labour of love, and Pozible is perfect for that, as you can support that love and get more laughs for your buck. As YouTube and the web grow, creating ongoing audience engagement with a YouTube channel is starting to pay off. Now, a channel with lots of views can generate a way for creative peeps to pay the rent. TV is moving to the net, and we're placing ourselves as producers who will inherit that future.
