The Play's Synopsis is:
Mrs Ettie Marney is dying and she is determined it will be in her own time. But she has some unfinished business that needs to be attended to first. Her children believe that they know what is best for her and have forgotten exactly who they are dealing with. They are also blissfully unaware of what, or who, they are really up against. With the help of her best friend Gertrude, Ettie teaches her children and the real enemy a thing or two about tactics, timing and respect.

This is a new play from Rural Australia about every family. As the Playwright I am very grateful to the Bendigo Theatre Company for their assistance. Being a not for profit organisation they have little to no funds to assist with the launching of this work. By funding the Theatre Hire and advertising will you will ease the burden on this wonderful amateur organisation.

The aim is to launch Turning Tables and to be a practical example of how, no matter your age, you can become what you were always meant to be.Turning Tables is my first full length play to be produced. Born in Inglewood Victoria, I have been creatively writing for most of my life. However, it is only now that my children have grown up, that I have had the opportunity to take on the challenge of writing a Play.

Approaching my first full length play in many years was like learning to ride a Penny-farthing; approach with extreme caution, peddle like mad, don’t lose your balance and never let them see the terror in your eye. Same way I’ve approached most things in my life.

I hope that we, together, can launch this play to give life to the voice of the characters and give the BTC a brand new forum in which to show their skills.

For more information about the Play the Bendigo Theatre Company Web Site is a great starting place.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The intended use of the funds is to dress the set, broaden the advertising profile and for Theatre Hire. It is anticipated that this will be broken down as follows:
Theatre Hire: $2,200 - This has been generously sponsored by Bendigo Theatre Company
Set:$1,200
Advertising $1,100

The Challenges

One of major risks is the lack of venue and advertising to spread the word of the new play.

We, BTC and I, are hitting the community radio scene and local media outlets for free advertising. This will afford limited exposure for the project so a broader advertising program needs to be established. This would include, but not exclusively, social media, networking, TV, and papers. It is also intended to offer invitations to other theatre organisations to spread the word of the Play.

The lack of a venue could have also hamper the project. There is access available within the Black Box Theatre at Bendigo but the reimbursement costs of this could prove prohibitive for the project had Bendigo Theatre Company not sponsored the use of the venue. The plan at this point is to rely on ticket sales to eventually offset some of those costs that Bendigo Theatre Company have incurred.
