Loving Good Food- a Cookbook

I've been collecting and refining my recipes for over ten years. People that I cook for at retreats, events and workshops are always asking me for a cookbook, and it's always been my dream to create one.
Last year I met with my good friend and photographer Pauline Langmead to chat about the possibility of her working with me on a book. I had the intention of planting a seed for some time in the future. Pauline had other ideas. "Ok. Lets do it!" was her response.
We started taking photos a few weeks later. She did an amazing job!


The Recipes
The book contains a selection of soups, salads, meals and treats as well as some of my favourite raw and cooked condiments.
I didn't set out to create a health food book, but rather to showcase recipes that taste amazing and just happen to be made without animal products or gluten. That being said I did use cheese, eggs or butter in a few of the recipes, as this is how I cook time to time. I've chosen recipes that are both satisfying and healthy, enjoyable for vegans, meat eaters, gluten free people and for everyone that loves good food.

Secrets of my custom Indian and Mexican spice blends will be revealed!
The recipes are all fully tested, include detailed instructions, and each one is accompanied by a beautiful photo. With many of the recipes I've included stories, nutritional information or cooking tips and techniques.

The team

Rachel Dale who has not only provided lessons in InDesign (the program we're using for design layouts) but also the computer to do it on! She has laid the foundations for the design and layout and guided me through the process.
BelFin who did the styling and conceptualisation for the book's cover.
Matt Coldrick who offered sound engineering and video editing as well as constant enthusiasm for the book.
We also engaged the professional services of Josie Jones for the cover design and Sean Dobra for the video, who have both have gone far beyond the call of duty.

All we need to do now is secure the funds, and we'll be ready to print in November this year.

How The Funds Will Be Used
The first level $6500 budget breaks down as follows:
$5500 full colour printing of 500 copies by a local printer on sustainable FSC certified paper
$300 Cover design
$375 Postage costs
$325 Pozible Crowdfunding Fee
Our next level target of $10000 would breakdown like this:
$7700 full colour printing of 750 copies by a local printer on sustainable FSC certified paper
$300 Cover design
$500 Postage costs
$500 Pozible Crowdfunding Fee
$300 Costs of Cover Photo shoot
$200 Payment of Videographer for Pozible video
$500 Costs related to Cookbook Launch Event
Ideally we will raise well beyond these amounts so that we can print more books.
The more books we print, the more cost effective they become.
If the books are cheaper and we have more then we are in a much better position to get the book into bookshops.
$15000 will get us:
all of the above,
at least 1000 books
world wide distribution of the e-book version via Hay House publishing
And that would be awesome!!!
There is definitely potential for this campaign to raise much more than $15000, and what we can achieve with these funds becomes very exciting...
Sun is currently developing a concept for his own kitchen space: a base for his catering, that will also be set up to host cooking workshops and develop recipes for his next book.
We can also take the book further by looking into book distribution and promotional/marketing services
The potential is limitless... so keep the support flowing in and we'll see what amazing things we can do together!
The Challenges
I've worked hard over the last year to help prepare the ground for this book, mainly but talking to many, many people that I have cooked for, and keeping everyone as up to date as possible by posting on social media. I've collected a lot of emails and names, and have a clearly developed promotional plan for the campaign. We're confident we have the support to raise the funds we need.
To get everything just right I've spent a huge amount of unpaid time preparing food for the photo shoots, editing the recipes, and now formatting the book in InDesign. I've taken a heap of time off work to do this, which is difficult. The amount of volunteer time put in by my excellent team is a lot to ask. And there's still a lot to do.
We have sound plan, a realistic timeline and an amazing community, and so despite it being difficult to fit a project like this into our busy lives, we will get the job done. I'm surrounded by talented, motivated and positive people who know how to meet a deadline, keep standards high and have fun doing it. So bring it on!
We are very confident that we can overcome any challenges that present themselves and get this book into your hands before the end of the year.
