Her cheeky and outgoing personality is an inspiration to everyone who meets her. By using her as the main character or ‘host’ I hope to inspire children to further develop their learning and to give them the courage to accept that there are no boundaries to what they can achieve.

How the App will work:

When the child taps on the screen the name of a colour will be heard and a paw coloured in the same way will be seen. Then the colour will spill all over the screen. Stella will cry “Oh, no, what a mess!” and she will then bounce around in the wet paint. Then she’ll stop and say “Let’s clean it up! Draw a circle on the screen.” The image of a circle will appear and when the child taps the screen the paint will reform into a circle. The circle will become a ball and Stella will sniff at it and then follow it as it bounces away. The child will then be asked to go on to the next colour and shape.

It won’t matter if the child is visually impaired because the audio will tell the child want is happening and will offer guidance. In regards to creating the shape, they may need someone to guide their hand but the actual process of drawing the circle doesn’t have to be exact. The program will create the circle itself and Stella will talk the child through the process. After the circle screen, another colour and shape will appear and the process will start again.

Who am I?

My name is Susan Day and I am a canine behaviourist, author and illustrator of children’s books. I run a dog training centre and specialize in re-training aggressive dogs and dogs with disabilities. Last year my business, Messy Pawz Dog Training, sponsored six blind puppies. I have also trained deaf dogs for the hearing impaired community.

In the past, I have been an educator of children with learning disabilities and overall I have a passion for children’s education. I am currently working on the 5^th book in my series Astro’s Adventures and I have also written “Understanding Your Dog: A Guide for Humans written by a Dog”. Astro’s Adventures are children’s books whose characters all based on real dogs and cats.

I have done a lot of research about storybook app development and I’m going back to school to study digital design so I can use my skills as an illustrator and educator to reduce the costs and have a real hands-on approach to the process of developing the app and turning images of Stella into a vibrant and engaging character for a young audience.

Why am I asking for funding?

I don’t want a cheap, simple looking app. I want one that will do everything it says it will and will astound people with its brilliance. I want it to be a very high quality product that will attract everyone.

And App designers don’t come cheap! I want to hire the best I can afford and that’s why I’m asking for your help. If we go over our target, we’ll just make the app bigger and better and offer it to more platforms.

Where is the money going?

The cost of hiring an app developer has been quoted at $20,000. Other monies raised will go towards rewards, postage, paypal fees and facebook advertising costs.

I want to share the uniqueness of my vision with my friends and the wider community. I want you to be part of this process and experience the journey with Stella and me.

It’s exciting, it’s important and it’s for a great cause. I hope to provide avenues to bring the community together through awareness, education, humor and the sharing of idea and dreams.
