SMOKE, DUST and SAND is the graduating short film by 2016 Swinburne Students.

Sam, 10, is a young downtrodden boy who escapes his overwhelming home life by building sandcastles with his friend, Dita. When Dita unexpectedly moves away, Sam finds himself having to face his problems alone.

Produced by Annabel Clayton & Nikki Richardson, and written & directed by Swinburne University student April Lampre, ‘Smoke, Dust and Sand’ will be a 10 minute surreal drama that explores the dynamics of first love and a mother/son relationship. The film deals with themes of loss, friendship and mental difference.

We will be shooting for 5 days in September in two wonderful locations – an old family home and a beautiful beach in South Gippsland.

We have a fantastic team on board for this film and we're all really excited to get started - but we need your help!!

How The Funds Will Be Used

Your generous donations will help us pay for some of the key aspects of our film, like...

  • Production Design costs: Our amazing production designer Samantha Howson will be busy painting walls, constructing sandcastles and decorating sea shells over the coming weeks!
  • Lenses: Our awesome cinematographer Drew Collins has chosen the equipment that will make our film look as stunning as possible.
  • Locations: These are obviously essential!
  • Food: For our hard working crew and our wonderful cast!
  • Festival Entry Fees: So you can see your generosity on the big screen!

The Challenges

Our biggest challenge will be succeeding in making this film truly surreal. We are relying on the best camera equipment and production design to turn Sam's world into a sandy dreamscape, and we can only succeed with your help!

If you have anything to spare we will be eternally grateful. Filmmaking is often not possible without the support of people like you! So thank you.
