TANIA BOSAK & THE BAREFOOT ORCHESTRA DEBUT ALBUM PROJECT 2014

My name is Tania Bosak and I am a vocalist, percussionist, composer, TaKeTiNa rhythm teacher and actor.
My recent project Miss Jugoslavia and The Barefoot Orchestra, 12 years in the making, was finally realised in October 2013. Miss Jugo is a composed theatre work, part concert, part theatre, part film score, and was inspired by my father's defection story from former Jugoslavia to Belgium in 1958.
Rudy Bosak defected with two other men who continue to reside in Belgium to this day.
The making of this production also led to their 54 year reunion in July 2013 - this was a highlight!

The two week season in Melbourne, was overwhelmingly well received, and the result was a sell out success!
Post show, many audience members asked for THE album, which we are yet to record.
So here we are, and we are ready to go!

SOUNDS LIKE
The music features original works composed by myself and arranged in collaboration with band members.
It has been described by reviewers as a mash up of punk, Balkan - jazz, gypsy folk, big brassy carnival scores, a slavic cabaret, as well as a soundtrack to a Dali painting!

THE ALBUM PROJECT

This project will release 500 single CD's, as well as 500 limited release double albums. The limited release double album will include the single CD, as well as a CD of alternate takes, band rehearsal grabs, key live moments captured at MOFO, secret rehearsal tracks, and some very rare recordings of Rudy Bosak playing/practicing and telling his story.

WHY NOW?

It's taken more than a decade to fully realise this production with successful funding from arts councils finally coming to the party in 2012, but applying for funds for a debut recording will take another year or two at least with deadlines, and we are ready to go now, with offers to buy the album, as well as offers to submit to music festivals and events.

So now we invite our fans, supporters, family members and friends of friends to help us realise this album so we can complete our press package, approach festivals nationally and internationally, as well as send a quality recording to radio networks worldwide. This will all help toward taking this unqiue new Australian work to the next stage, an international one, and all contributions will go a long way to making this happen.

THE BAND

Barefoot Orchestra musicians are some of the best the jazz, classical and contemporary scene in Australia has to offer. They are bold, masterful, and a little on edge in the best possible way. It's a special ensemble that has been integral to the development of this work, and to the heart of this project.
They are also in demand, so I have made sure to lock them in for rehearsal/recording dates in advance!

MEET THE SOUND ENGINEER

Myles Mumford

We are excited that Myles will be engineering and mixing this album.
Myles Mumford is a fearless audio explorer. His work as a composer, sound artist and record producer extends the genres of expression and vigorously pursues new territory. Myles embraces musical expression without borders – from Avant-garde to Classical, Pop to Punk, and Jazz to Indie.
Myles’ vast experience producing experimental sound art and theatre has awarded him many unique methods which assist in capturing the essence of an artist’s performance, and inform the interaction between art and technology in the recording process. He is renowned for his musical and collaborative approach to recording, and his ability to create a sense of presence and space.

WHAT'S THE DEAL?

Fans, supporters, and those interested in the project can support this recording project going ahead by purchasing in advance the single album, or the limited release double album. This will help to cover our immediate studio and engineering costs. All remaining costs I will be covering personaly so we can meet our deadline and be ready to launch in July 2014. It is also planned to take this work to APAM (Australian Performing Arts Market) in 2015, and this album will complete the package.

All donated funds will go toward studio hire costs, sound engineering fees, mixing and mastering costs. Any extra funds will be put toward design and manufacturing, musician fees, as well as our CD launch in July 2014.
Here is an approximate breakdown of the immediate costs:
Studio Hire including sound engineer for 3 days - $2500
Mixing and mastering - $2600
Manufacturing including design for 500 single CD's, and 500 double albums - $2000

All band members have been booked in advance, and rehearsal/recording dates have been set for the last week of February, and the first week of March 2014.
The only obstacle with this project is timing, as these musicians book up in advance!
We are confident we can meet our deadline and complete the recording/overdubs by the end of March, and have the album mastered and ready for release by July 20144.
