The goal is to get Lily to Australia to attend the screening of her film ‘Bayou Maharajah’ at the 2013 Melbourne Film festival…time is short so she’ll have to make a run for it!

Lily Keber is a filmmaker and educator based in New Orleans. Her brilliant film Bayou Maharajah is a documentary about the black, gay, one-eyed junkie James Booker, the ‘Piano Prince of New Orleans’. As director and co-producer of Bayou Maharajah Lily spent the last four years putting the documentary together, and in doing so was able to unearth more never-seen material than anyone, illustrating with great care the essence of the man who was both barely tolerated and completely loved…and how his music made that possible.

The film is now complete and is receiving rave reviews at its screenings in the USA; and then came the exciting news that Bayou Maharajah has been accepted into the Melbourne International Film Festival, marking its Australian premiere. Alas the Festival does not pay expenses and giddy celebrations came to a screeching halt when Lily opened an atlas and realised just how many miles separated the Big Easy that is New Orleans and Melbourne, the Cultural Capital of Australia!

So that’s where we come in. New Orleans is known for its Southern hospitality, but I reckon we can get Lily to Melbourne by showing off some true Aussie spirit! Funds raised will be used for airfares, accommodation and transport in Melbourne, and if we surpass our goal we might even be able to feed her! Chip in as little or as much as you can, but please chip in, be a part of this outstanding film, and get to know the genius of James Booker and his music in the process.

Of course if you contributed to the making of the film you already know how special it is and we’d love for you to help us get Lily here to see her conquer the Land Down Under. We accept all major currencies via credit card and PayPal and assure you that we’ll take good care of her!

C’mon, let’s do this…it’ll be fun!

The festival runs from 25 July to 11 August 2013. The full schedule hasn't been released yet, but Bayou Maharajah is scheduled to screen on Saturday 3rd and Thursday 8th August. We'll confirm dates as soon as we can!
