Spinning In Slow Motion | Film
Life is hard when you’re young, free and single. Tommy is 21, gay, and spends her time spinning through lifes hurdles. In the space of 24 hours, Tommy finds herself stood up on a date, babysitting a baby she knows nothing about, being lectured and patronised by her mother, sleeping with an off-again-on-again lover and eating ice cream in a convenience store car park. With no goals, no plans and no idea what she’s doing, she just shrugs and shimmies her way through it all, plastering on a smile and using her youth to excuse her from any responsibility. But when it all gets too much, she is left spinning in slow motion in the dark, unable to save herself from the adult world.
This film is being created for a JMC Academy graduating project – but more than that; it is a story that needs to be told. A story of you, a story of me, a story of everyone who has ever been twenty-something and searching for something real to grasp onto.
Spinning In Slow Motion is a ‘slice of life’ drama with comedic elements that finds its humour in that of reality. Tommy is coming of age, and in a constant spiral of finding herself. And as an audience, I want you to be right there with her. Strip back special effects, forget any CGI – let’s just delve into Tommy’s world; that of a twenty-something girl trying to find her path. Spinning In Slow Motion will be raw, real, awkward and it’ll hold a mirror up to so many young people of today.
This film finds its inspiration from so many places – I watch films, I digest films, I analyse films and then I make films. I’ve always been so passionate about telling accurate stories of youth, and I love films that capture what it’s really, truly like to be in that weird stage between child and adult. That’s what Spinning In Slow Motion aims to be.
Let’s just put it this way: if you like ….
... then this is a film for you!

How The Funds Will Be Used
100% of the contributions donated will go towards funding the film Spinning in Slow Motion.
The productions budget is focused on the casting of the film, as well as the post-production sound, to ensure that the music composition, sound design and final sound mix are at a professional level. The production design, make-up and wardrobe are also a very important part of our budget, as this element will enhance the story of the film. Catering is also a big expense as it’s what keeps the hardworking cast and crew happy and energised on set. Like all professional films, a 10% contingency has been put in place to make sure that all costs of the film are fully covered.
Here is a breakdown of how the funds will be used for the film:
The Challenges
Our main target is to get our film into film festivals around Australia so it is important for the film to have the best possible production value. People tend to forget that distributing films into festivals can be quite expensive so it is so important that we get your support so we have the chance to enter out film into festivals nationally and internationally!
