We're super excited that What's Love Got To Do With it? has been accepted into The Blue Room Theatre April-July Season.

Now, we need your help!

We need some financial assistance to bring this production to The Blue Room stage, clothe the bodies of six performers and make it rain (lots and lots of petals).

About the show

The show was inspired by an article stating that scientists are currently creating a cure for love. We were so intrigued by this love-drug and why anyone would want to cure love in the first place. Our play takes place inside a pharmecutical board room on the brink of realising - The Remedy™.  Five faceless boardmembers tackle the ethical questions and financial gain in the ultimate battle of head and heart.

No time for a broken heart? Don't worry - we're here to help!

"The Remedy™ contains three drugs that target attraction, attachment and lust to temporarily cure love. In fact, you can leave your partner today and never look back. Say goodbye to daydreaming about your crush and hello to a healthy dose of rational thinking!"

Directed by emerging artist, Rachael Woodward and originally devised by Bachelor of Performing Arts students at The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts as part of TILT, What’s Love Got To Do With It? is a fast-paced, satirical exploration of love and loss – perfect for any relationship status.

If you could buy a cure for love, would you?

Who are The Cutting Room Floor?

The Cutting Room Floor is a Perth-based indie production house that strives to create exceptional live theatre for the contemporary audience. Co-artistically run by Scott Corbett and Zoe Hollyoak, TCRF create work with actors, physical theatre-makers, live-local musicians and people who care.

Since it’s establishment in 2012, TCRF have pursued 12 different projects, 60 different shows, and hosted 3 national tours to thousands of audience members. TCRF’s work has been praised in newspapers such as The West Australian, across radio and online media and the company has built a strong following in Perth and abroad. TCRF is on the precipice of Australian independent theatre. With sold out shows, rave reviews and a growing following in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, TCRF is working toward a reality of creating innovative theatre within a sustainable yet multidisciplinary model.

What’s Love Got To Do With It? is the next step for TCRF, producing challenging and thought-provoking stories to wide audiences, sparking thought and conversation on issues of society and self that are otherwise left out or left behind.

Why are we making this work?

What's Love Got To Do With It? touches on marriage, divorce, Romeo and Juliet, break-ups, new love, adultery, the clichés of romantic comedies, love at first sight– you name it, if it’s about love, it’s in this show. The material is relatable across all generations and questions how much of society’s perception of love is realistic. Is a drug to cure love necessary and what are the benefits and the consequences of a world without love?

What’s Love Got To Do With It? explores the clinical world of pharmaceutical companies – a world of control and money. It has been in headlines recently that Turing Pharmaceuticals bought a 62-year-old drug, Daraprim and then increased the price by more than 5,000%. The high price of prescription medicines is a current issue and our project addresses how money can become more important than ethical, human rights.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The Cutting Room Floor will use the Pozible funds to assist with direct costs for:

Design and Costuming:

Our designer, Olivia Targalia is working hard to dress 6 performers -  and anyone who grew up in a big family knows that this is a big task! Olivia is a perth artist and designer, who's work draw inspiration from biological art and contemporary installation. She works with sculpture and textiles and has some amazing plans to transform The Blue Room Theatre main space.

Think beakers, an enormous boardroom table and lots and lots of rose petals.

Marketing & Graphic Design:

We are working with the talented Thom Smyth & Rachel Audino from Little Shout publicity house, and the wonderful Timothy Green as our graphic designer. Like all the best things in life, they cost money.

Artist Wages:
Last but not least, we want to reward everyone for their work on this show and pay them in more than just love.

Guest performance from Tina Turner:

*We wish! But thanks for reading this far.

With such a big team, our small budget doesn't stretch far. Every dollar you share, brings us closer to achieving our goal.

The Challenges

We're honoured to be a part of The Blue Room Theatre April-July 2016 season and we're so close to creating our dream production of this work, we're just lacking a few dollars to get it there.

One of our greatest challenges as independent artists are the costs inolved with putting on a production. With such a huge cast & creative team - it's almost doubled the amount of money we need to bring this production to life.

This is where we need you.

Help us overcome this challenge!
