Newly formed Sydney-based theatre company, The Earthcrosser Company, are staging a production of Cold, by renowned Swedish playwright Lars Norén. The play will have a two week performance season from September 29 to October 9 at PACT Space in Erskineville.

This is the first time Cold has been shown outside Europe and is a first worldwide as an English speaking production, making for a unique opportunity to those involved.


ABOUT THE PLAY

Cold, is a frighteningly realistic and shocking account of violence driven by social discrimination and serves as a study of the intricate yet extreme nature of intolerance that exists between human beings.

Two young men are celebrating their high school graduation in the afternoon sun by a lake together. They are joined by a third man who was expelled from school a few years earlier. Drunk, contemptuous and bitter, the world is a detestable trap for these three and their surroundings. A fourth young man wanders past and by doing so, unwittingly unleashes a series of events which none can return.

The production will be directed by Shiereen Anne Magsalin who, after sourcing theatre training opportunities and mentorships with international theatre companies and freelance theatre artists, is ready to share valuable artistic and cultural experiences with performers and audiences here in her hometown Sydney.

As part of the production of Cold, some of Australia’s most amazing independent musicians have signed on to create an original score and perform LIVE each night of the production. This in itself will be a drawcard to musicians, theatre makers and those looking for something extra in their creative performances.


WHAT WE NEED

Raising money for an independent theatre production is no easy feat and we want to give this play the best possible opportunity to blow minds and make an impact! Whilst we are also sourcing income through business sponsorships and creative fundraising events, we are asking you help us raise $4000 in 40 days through Fundbreak to cover production and administrative costs. This will include sound and lighting equipment hire, and costs associated with professionally translating this play into English.

We're putting much energy, time and passion into bringing Lars Norén's courageous play from the other side of the world to the Australian market. In addition to exploring new artistic perspectives and practices, Cold is a work which will awaken the social conscience of the community, addressing discrimination and violence in very real, relative and understandable terms. We believe in its power, its relevance and the need for it to be seen in this country.
