The Wandering Room

The Wandering Room is a Brisbane-based ARI (Artist Run Initiative) that began in 2007 and includes David, Sarah, and Angela. While we have never had a permanent space we have chosen to exhibit in a wide range of unusual spaces such as windows and a dollhouse. Help us realise our up-coming project ‘Caravan’!


‘Caravan’ is a temporary outdoor art gallery based on a shipping container and a surrounding structure made from pallets. It is a collaborative project by Artist-Run-Initiative, The Wandering Room and Atelier Chen Hung Architects. ‘Caravan’ is being built specifically for a series of rotating Wandering Room art exhibitions and is part of Brisbane Festival’s ‘Under the Radar’ visual arts program. It will be situated outdoors, at The Brisbane Powerhouse’s Labyrinth site this September. This site is a slab of concrete opposite a carpark, next to New Farm Park. The project arose from a common desire to explore the ways in which art and architecture can enhance each others aesthetic and in activating unused spaces. Both groups wish to bring their project and the work of emerging artists to a wider audience by positioning it in a high traffic space that is populated by art patrons, passers-by, market goers, park users, dogs and others.

The artistic program will feature experimental, three dimensional, and performance works by local Brisbane artists including Carly Scoufos, Richard Stride, Sophie Bottomley, and David Creed and Angela Rossitto amongst others. The project will showcase their work and provide further exposure for an up-and-coming ARI, architect practice and group of artists.

Our funding goal of $1500 will go towards the transportation of materials, cost of materials, and labour.

Caravan will run from Saturday the 8^th of September until Saturday the 29^th of September and will be open on weekends.
