Humans vs. Zombies Melbourne’s second annual campout is designed to be the definitive zombie survival experience running from Friday the 29th of November to Sunday the 1st of December at Warrnambool’s Surfside Holiday Park. It is located only 50 meters from the beach and 100 meters from Lake Pertobe, on 15 acres of park which has been reversed exclusively for the event.

With our partners Bleached Productions, Box Wars: Art of Destruction, Lasertag LARP, Melbourne NERF Group, NERF Core, based on the international sensation Humans vs. Zombies, there are no actors and no script. Players will be thrust into a dynamic open world where they will scavenge, fight, defend, raid, siege, betray and die.

Surfside Holiday Park will be split between Settlements and Wasteland. Settlements will be the event’s safe zones. This is where players will be able to setup their tents/camping equipment, receive missions, trade equipment scavenged from the Wasteland and play/visit the many attractions offered by our partners and other stallholders.

The Wasteland will be the events playing field, play will be active from 6PM on Friday to 3PM on Sunday. Players must enter the Wasteland to scavenge supplies and equipment, travel to other Settlements and complete missions but must always be ready to fight or flee from not just zombies but other humans.

Humans must prevent zombies from making a three second tag on them, to do this human players use NERF dart blaster. When struck with a dart, zombies become stunned requiring them to return to a respawn point. Humans must also defend themselves from each other, as humans can use safe foam or LARP melee equipment to strike one another- leaving them vulnerable to be robbed of equipment or executed. Humans who are executed by another human or tagged by a zombie join the zombie horde.

As a zombie, a player goes from being the hunted to the hunter. By working as a team and purchasing powerful mutations, zombies seek to bring all players into the loving embrace of the horde. As we know it can be frustrating to be zombified early and not get to experience the human side so zombies will be able to purchase a ‘New Life’.

The New Life system will not only allow players to experience both sides of the events gameplay but using sophisticated statistical algorithms it will enable the control of the zombie population. This will create an organically increasing difficulty curve and prevent the humans from being wiped out prior to the conclusion of the event.

This will all be made pozible by the event’s economic system; players will not be allowed to bring darts into the event. All darts will be provided by Humans vs. Zombies: Melbourne forming the basis of the economy for both humans and zombies as humans will need darts to defend themselves against zombies and zombies will need to gather darts to purchase mutations and a chance at a New Life.

FAQs

What is Humans vs. Zombies?

http://humansvszombies.org/ describes Humans vs. Zombies as “game of moderated tag played at schools, camps, neighbourhoods, military bases, and conventions across the world. Human players must remain vigilant and defend themselves with socks and dart blasters to avoid being tagged by a growing zombie horde.”

Can I bring my own blaster/s?
YES! We understand the bond between a boy or girl and their blaster and would never try and separate you. We only ask that you leave your darts at home and to avoid disappointment only bring blasters that can use elite darts.

Can I bring my own melee/LARP equipment/s?
Yes, so long as it is safe and doesn’t have a projectile component. e.g. no bows and arrows.

My blaster/s is modified and/or painted can I still use it?
All players will be provided with safety goggles while in play zones. This combined with the exclusive use of elite darts means only the most heavily modified and dangerous blasters will not be allowed- please contact Humans vs. Zombies: Melbourne via Pozible, Facebook or [email protected] if unsure. As this event is on private property and will feature sign informing passers-by that all painted blasters are allowed but must not leave the Surfside Holiday Park unless fully enclosed in a bag or container.

Can I bring socks or marshmallows to stun zombies?
No, while you are welcome to bring socks and marshmallows to wear and eat (or vice versa) they will not be able to stun zombies.

What if I don’t think I can play Humans vs. Zombies for three days straight?
Neither could I! That is why players can eat, sleep and just have a break from play in the event’s safe zones (Settlements). Players in their home Settlements can also remove their bandanas and gear if they want to leave the Surfside Holiday Park and explore Warrnambool.

Is it okay for me to film and/or take pictures during the camp?
Yes, as long as you respect the privacy of others and agree to allow any footage/pictures you take to be used as part of the camps documentary. Any footage/pictures that are used will be properly credited. Please contact us via Pozible, Facebook or [email protected]

Can I bring alcohol/cigarettes to the event?
Yes, in fact we’ll even let you drink/smoke them! But you cannot trade, sell or give alcohol/cigarettes to anyone else, or drink /smoke in non-drinking/ smoking areas.

V/Line services run regular from Melbourne to Warrnambool, and Humans vs. Zombies: Melbourne will be running a shuttle service from the station to the Surfside Holiday Park and vice versa.

I don’t have a tent, can I still stay at the Surfside Holiday Park?
Places in large communal sleeping tents will be made available to those without tents upon request. Please contact us via Pozible, Facebook or [email protected]
