My most beautiful work to date, "Three Dervishes Die a Beautiful Death" is ready to record to CD.
It's somewhere between an audio-book and a musical CD, combining a poetic erotica novella with middle eastern music.
The backstory to this piece is that I was invited to perform at an erotic Shibari (Japanese rope bondage) performance in June this year. I wanted to explore the concept of surrender, and what it means in a spiritual sense through the eyes of Sufism. Three Dervishes Die a Beautiful Death was the result.
Coming from an Adults Only night, it is an Adults Only piece, driven by sensuality and violence, though all held within the loving compass of spirit. Three Sufi teaching stories form the basic structure of the piece, though any embellishments, mistakes and allusions to bondage erotica are mine.
The story revolves around a beautiful and uncompromisingly strong queen. She deals ruthlessly with the dervishes who seek her out, testing their sincerity and commitment. Essentially the piece is an exploration of shadow, and how we can remain in love with a world that can often be cruel and senseless.
I’ve received a lot of great feedback on the piece, and now I’m looking to record it. I’ve approached Shai Shriki – one of the most talented oud players in the country – to compose and produce the music.
This campaign is about making that recording happen.

The Challenges
The biggest challenge here is time. I have a 15 month old daughter, and Shai is one of the most industrious and generous musicians i the country. The budget here is to give us both some space to make the project happen.
We are aiming to block out a week in November to make it happen.
