Keep Waterwheel Turning

Waterwheel is an internet platform created by our Brisbane-based team - Inkahoots, Igneous and Suzon Fuks - in response to the global need of sharing resources around water awareness, management and celebration.
The major tool on Waterwheel is a unique, free video-conferencing & media mixing system, "the Tap" - something like a combination of Skype group video, Flickr and YouTube for all kinds of media focused on water. It allows thinkers, activists, artists, scientists and educators - people from all continents and of all ages, from remote places or capital cities - to exchange cultures and ideas about water.
After 2 and a half years, hundreds of projects, and building up an amazing community, we need your help to keep Waterwheel turning. Based on feedback we've received, we’re also going to improve the website, making it even more powerful and accessible.

We’re proud of Waterwheel, and really want it to take-off in a larger way. Our vision is that more people using it will help to make the world more aware and caring about water.
We’ve come up with a design for a "re-vamp” that will give the website a new look, make it easier to get around, easier for newcomers to get going on the Tap straight up, and provide a much smoother, faster user-experience for all! There’ll be a step-by-step entry process, and a demo-Tap that can be played anytime by anyone whether they are registered or not. Making Taps (live internet events) and uploading media will be easier, and there’ll be new features on the Tap.

For those interested in technological specifications: some of the coding will be re-written from the original Flash to HTML5, enabling the site to work faster, smoother and more compatibly with handheld devices.
The future
Waterwheel’s biggest annual event is the Waterwheel World Water Day Symposium. This year it will span a whole week from the 17th to the 23rd of March. 30 countries will be represented by more than 200 people from 5 continents, including children in VOICE OF THE FUTURE, communities, TED talkers, thinkers and brilliant artists!
Similar conferences that occur in real world locations charge hundreds of dollars to attendees and presenters, not to mention the carbon and water footprints of travel and accommodation. While Waterwheel offers an online venue free of cost to all users.
By supporting Waterwheel now, you will be helping to raise awareness and care about water worldwide, and keep Waterwheel turning ! :-)
