What's The Deal With Data? We have raised enough money now for our 45 second animation. From here, the more we raise, the more animation we'll have and the more awareness we'll generate.  

"Over the last 200 years, millions have died for the rights to freedom we enjoy, but now we are just giving those rights away" - Edward Snowden. 

After watching the Oscar Award Winning documentary 'Citizen Four', this line has resonated with us long after the film ended. We want to bring this story into an Australian context and present it in an interesting and engaging format.

 

"What's The Deal With Data?" is a short form documentary focusing on Jordan Davenport who, in his mad attempt to evade Australia’s new data retention laws, attempts to live a data-less existence for one month. We follow Jordan on this crazy adventure as he meets leading politicians and industry professionals on all sides of the debate.


So What Is The Deal With Data? We are a group of Masters Film Students studying at the WA Screen Academy. We wish to intercut our live action documentary with brief animations to engage our audience. This is the purpose of our Crowd Funding Campaign. 

Marian Dela Fuente is an experienced animation artist. Her understanding of the privacy issues that data retention laws raise has sparked her interest in this project. Her work so far consists of rough 2D character animations and we are BLOWN AWAY!!!

WE HAVE NOW RAISED OUR TARGET BUT THERE IS STILL MORE THAT CAN BE DONE. Animation is a great way to convey complex issues in a digestible and entertaining format.  We would love to have Marian as involved as possible. The more we raise, the more Marian can add value.  


Animation is a complex process consisting of the following steps: 

1. Script / audio recording
2. Story board (visual composition of scenes based on the script) 
3. Animatic (animated story board to finalize camera movement, scene cuts, timing, music, audio) 
4. Finalizing the animation (line work, colour)
5. Post production - Any other refinement like colour correction, special fx to put on top of the final animation. 




All the money that we raise will go to paying Marian. 
With your help, and Marian's involvement we can continue creating an engaging and informative world.
