About ‘Pastiche’
Following the exploits of an ensemble cast of First-Year University Students as they navigate their way through the minefield that is classes and relationships through to being responsible ‘Adult’ members of society… In a world where Puppets and Humans live side-by-side.
‘Pastiche’ is literally defined as a hodgepodge of a variety of influences, combined into something new, and indeed, we’ve not heard of anything quite like this. As a blend of both Comedy and Drama, this Character-Based Serial-Narrative Web-Series is being developed with far more Adult Themes than traditionally expected of a show featuring Puppets; containing, amongst other things, Drug Use, Sexual References and/or Scenes, and Coarse Language.
‘Pastiche’ is the brainchild of Chris White and Jhess Knight, whose backgrounds are immersed in the creative arts in Melbourne, Victoria. Chris is on the last legs of a Bachelor of Film and Digital Media, whilst Jhess is a recent graduate of Drama Performance, both at Deakin University in Burwood. Of late, however, we have both just come off the back of a children’s puppetry show with ‘theredbox’ called The Magical Oak Tree as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival. So, with this invaluable practical experience now behind us, we’ve used it as a launching point to finally get this concept off the ground, now with a wealth of Puppeteering contacts on top of it.
And what’s more, the Puppets featured throughout the show are wholly original, built from the foam up by our very own self-taught puppet-smith, Jhess Knight. And aiming for a 13 episode run with this first season, and a run-time of up to 22 minutes per episode, we have surely got our work cut out for us.
Of course, this is looking to the future, and for the time being we are looking to raise $2500 in order to get the Pilot episode off the ground, covering expenses for Sets, Props, Equipment, and Materials for the Puppets themselves; which is scheduled to start Production in February 2012. The promo video we’ve included is just a taste of what’s to come; an idea of what we can accomplish on enthusiasm and Pizza alone, and we’re only getting better!
From there, with the Pilot produced, and the rest of the series written, we can get the ball rolling on funding those 12 remaining episodes while shopping around the Pilot to see how far we can take it, quite conceivably even to television!
And as if we’re not doing enough, we’ve also got a Show in the Melbourne Comedy Festival 2012; that’s right, puppets LIVE on-stage andon-line.In the meantime, we are already at work on
more Promo videos for you to check out while we prepare for the Pilot.
