DIVE seeks to remind middle class Australia that not everyone is so lucky, that even in an affluent society such as ours there is a hidden underclass, and that it doesn’t take much (e.g. divorce, mental illness or drug abuse) for even a well-off person to fall from grace and end up at the bottom of the heap.
As we are telling the story of disadvantaged Australians we thought that it would be important for them to come and see the show. However, many of them can't afford the discretionary cost of theatre tickets, so we are using Pozible to enable others to shout them a ticket so they can see their story told through live theatre. Such an opportunity could also be for some the very first time they have experienced live theatre.
DIVE is playing July this year (2014) at the Open Stage Theatre, Melbourne University. More information can be found at:
www.divethemusical.comEvery $20 pledged will allow a disadvantaged Australian to see a performance of DIVE. This will be for some of them the first time they will experience live theatre.
These special tickets will distributed through local Melbourne charities.
This production is being co-produced and directed by Wolf Heidecker, a very experienced theatre producer and director. The musical was thoroughly workshopped in 2013 and a number of improvements were made to it before launching the production this year. A workshop process is a great way to take the risk and pressure out of producing a new musical and already production rehearsals are proceeding smoothly as a result!
