Time and space shatter in the Old Museum Building this August for Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre’s IN THE RAW Production of Medea: The River Runs Backwards. Medea. Mother, Queen, Lover and instrument of darkest arts. How did someone so strong, so intelligent become so overwhelmed with the need for revenge? How can someone live on, when they have cut out their own heart?

We need your help in setting the Old Museum on fire (not literally). We are here to partner with smart investors, artistic friends and loyal supporters like YOU to raise funds to help enhance the design and production. We are transforming the 3rd Studio of the OLD MUSEUM into a non-traditional, high art, carefully-designed space, to integrate multimedia, lighting and music.
Working with our prolific designer, Christine Urquhart (Check out her website: http://urquhartimagination.com) and talented musicians, we will push our project to another extraordinary level. Christine will travel to Brisbane from Sydney to create the beautiful and dynamic design at the Old Museum. The exciting cast includes Lauren Jackson as Medea, Eric Berryman as Jason, Peter Cossar as Creon, and Melissa Budd as the Nurse.
Medea: The River Runs Backwards will be the classic tragedy of Medea, reimagined by Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre’s Resident Director, Drew der Kinderen. Join us for a season of vengeful, apocalyptic, brutally honest interrogation of love and loss. Medea has been cast off, and another women has stolen her bridal bed. Medea’s vengeance will tear down ancient families, and leave only tears and ashes. This tragedy will be re-enacted every night at the mysterious Old Museum Building (est 1891- Queensland Heritage listed building).
IN THE RAW- WHAT IS IT?
The IN THE RAW Studio Season is a key part of Zen Zen Zo’s cycle of developing new and challenging work for Queensland audiences. Created in 2005,IN THE RAW provides a place for the company to return to its experimental roots, performing mostly devised work in site-specific or non-traditional theatre spaces, where thephysical and visceral performance style of Zen Zen Zo is brought to the forefront.

Zen Zen Zo is a Brisbane-based physical theatre ensemble at the forefront of contemporary performance and training in Australia. Our work is accessible and adventurous, drawing new audiences to the theatre, and is currently one of the few experimental companies working in Queensland committed to exploring new ways of making and presenting theatre that taps into wider markets.
