Pawno
It's not a gangster film. It's not a thriller. It's not a romance. It's not political.
It is an uncompromising depiction into the underbelly of our society that happens to encompass all of the above.
Pawno is a feature length movie set amongst Melbourne's most notorious commission flats in Fitzroy and Collingwood. The heart of the story lies in an ageing Pawn shop on Brunswick Street. Over a 24 hour period the eclectic ensemble of characters lives are changed, some permanently, some for a night.
Without giving away too much of the story, Pawno is a raw examination of life in often misrepresented characters in Australian film. The lost, the lonely and those on the cusp of love. At its core is a simple love story. Yet love is rarely simple. We have assembled a crew of some of the most experienced players in Australian film blended with opportunities for the next generation to collaborate on a project that has been developed over the past 18 months. We begin a pre-production in late December 2013 with the shoot taking place between February and March 2014. The intended date of final film is 15th October, 2014.
Toothless pictures is a production company founded by Paul Ireland and Damian Hill in 2013. We sit uniquely placed in the Australian film industry as our focus lies on true independent projects free from restraints often associated with larger collaborations. Their work can become sanitised, redundant and bland. Ours will remain edgy, memorable and original. We aren’t about reinventing the wheel to do so. It’s more about breaking the mould. And we invite you to join us by supporting our first feature film, PAWNO.
How The Funds Will Be Used
Toothless Pictures have raised the majority of the $158,000 budget independently through private investment and some in kind services. We are seeking $12,500 to ensure that the film gets up.
We understand how difficult it is in these times to ask people to part with there hard earned, which is why you can donate as little as $ 5.... to feel part of our Film and feel happy in the Knowledge you are helping us create a piece of Art.
As you will see our Budget of $158,000 , is very low for a feature film , and every cent is accounted for. Where we are short on the budget, is catering..... and we very much need to feed these people, who will be working long hours, for very little pay and in some cases none.
The other factor is as much as we love the fact that people have been offering there services for free, just to be part of our collaboration, we feel everyone should have at least a small wage at the end of the week to say thank you for your efforts.
A breakdown of money raised.
$5000 catering for the month long shoot.
$7500 towards crew wages and expenses .
We Thank You xxx
