This project is aimed at completing my debut Spoken Word album, "The Winter :Poet: Songs of Love". The work is almost done and we just need a final push to get it over the line!
This album is the culmination of my development as a Spoken Word artist and frankly it's a whole lotta fun. It features a wide variety of poems, from poignant to hilarious, and I want all of you to come on board and become part of the fun. Audiences who have seen me perform throughout Sydney and NSW know that I have a unique voice that is, at its best, both personal and provocative, and, at worst, just highly entertaining.
This album however, is an exploration of Spoken Word without its usual high power performance energy. It offers in its place fascinating combinations of voice, sound and music.
It has live collaboration from the brilliant Bronsai Watkins (strings) and Billy Ward (saxophone) as well as the electronic soundscapes of masterful musician/producer Josh Cohn, not to mention the haunting wailing of traditional Indian vocalist Sayak Bhattacharya. Throw in a few cheeky interjections from noted performer Daniel Slade and we have an enjoyable exploration of love poems, through a fascinating variety of sounds and ideas.
How The Funds Will Be Used
This album is fully recorded, mixed and mastered. All that is required is some final funds to cover the production and packaging of the disks themselves. This small bit of money is the last thing required to push this project over the edge into completion.
The Challenges
The work is done, so on that score, there is no risk of this project not happening.
The challenge we face is promoting a relatively under-developed art form, Spoken Word, which too often gets hidden beneath it's more recognised contemporaries music and singing, especially the vocally dominated hybrid forms of hip-hop and rap.
In moving from the traditional home of performance poetry, I am hoping to help evolve this art form and help it realise some of it's latent potential through this album
