CONSTRUCTION OF THE HUMAN HEART
Two Actors. One Hour.
This groundbreaking play is a fast and electrifying dark comedy that tests the limits of language. Him and Her are two playwrights. They sit on stage in one of Sydney’s most intimate venues, building a play using a fortress of words. As their words begin to crack open, they fight to discover what it means to love and lose, to hope and despair and to right and write. Nominated for the Melbourne Prize for Literature, the 2007 AWGIE Award for Play of the Year and the New York New Dramatists Award, Construction of the Human Heart is a powerful, brief and unorthodox evening at the theatre that will leave you questioning what actually took place.
For everyone on our team, this is a special piece of theatre. Cat Martin and Michael Cullen are my dream team for this piece and the fact that we've worked together before on Apocalypse Theatre Company's 'Closer', means that we can reach into the emotional lives of these characters and draw out something striking for you, our audience. But, like most independent theatre, the actors often do it for the love of the art with the promise of a profit share, if any, after we cover costs. It's not fair on the actors who will dedicate hours and hours of rehearsal time bringing this work to life. Paying them a fee for rehearsal will allow them to focus exclusively on this project and give them the four weeks of concentrated time they deserve to bring Ross' magical script to life.
I'm asking you to join me in placing the people who make theatre possible - the actors - at the centre of the discussion. I'm waiving my fee and I'm asking you to get behind the actors and the playwright, all Australian artists who create work for our viewing pleasure.
It's important to me that the rewards we offer you for your donation are ones that bring you value. Our rewards invite you to become a part of the Apocalypse Theatre Company family and for many of them, you're not just supporting a good cause but pre-purchasing your tickets to see the show! If this project is something that sounds worth supporting, please share it with your friends.
Thank you for considering our project.
Warmest wishes,
Dino Dimitriadis
How The Funds Will Be Used
- $2000 will subsidise our writer's royalty (the brilliant mind behind Construction of the Human Heart)
- $3000 will be used to pay our actors for rehearsal
Any funds beyond our target of $5000 will be used to pay the actors for performance and a humble fee to the Director/Producer.
We're starting a conversation with you, our potential supporters. We've found sponsors to cover our production costs and cut any unnecessary costs out of our budgets. This campaign, and the production itself, is about the people who make theatre happen.
