{Ofa Fanaika, Captain of the Dreamboat/Producer/Actor} "Captain Dreamboat is a band that sings about dreams, love and dreams of love. We're a sextet with roots in jazz, soul and rhythm and blues. Vocal stacks and delicate melodies. We live in West End, Brisbane, and travel the festival circuits through the reggae, soul and roots scene. We have an idea for a dreamy love story that's best explained through the consciousness of film. Old friend and local filmmaker Oliver Hildebrand came to me with the collaborative vision of a beautiful storyline, a film-dream of surreal experiences told from multiple perspectives to illustrate the themes of lopsided love which inspired the song 'Fallin' for You'. The idea has moved into project mode and to pull it off we need some financial support to get the right gear and people involved."

{Oliver Hildebrand, Producer/Director} "As an emerging filmmaker, I have wanted to make a music film clip for some time now. I have watched Ofa (Captain of the Dreamboat) evolve as a musician since first seeing her play solo sets, through her continued involvement with the Chocolate Strings and most recently at the helm of one of Brisbane's finest ensemble of jazz musicians performing beautiful original music. When I caught a Captain Dreamboat gig at The Joynt in late 2013 I was blown away by what Ofa had achieved. The songs are inspired, the musicianship world-class and the band has a real knack for connecting with the crowd. I approached Ofa after the show and told her that I wanted to do a film clip. She sent me the rough mixes that would become the E.P 'Fallin' for You' and its instantly struck me as a great choice for film clip. The treatment that followed, with its strong narrative, multiple locations, and one or two complex shots, is something that will require a degree of funding to bring off the page. 

Ofa and the Crew of the Dreamboat are doing some amazing things musically, as evidenced in their E.P. 'Fallin' for You' (listen and/or download here), and this film clip would create some good opportunities for them to gain maximum exposure, especially as its release would coincide with a national tour they will be undertaking in October. I call on all their many fans in West End and Brisbane at large, as well as all discerning people around Australia and the world, to get behind this talented band. In return, we will give you a dreamy piece of cinema which does justice to the beautiful music which inspired it."

The film clip has a strong narrative, spans multiple locations and requires a few complex shots and set ups. The rough budget breakdown is as follows:

- Lighting, camera and gear hire: $1000
- Wages (Key crew members & principal actors): $1500
- Vehicle hire: $500
- Consumables (food, drink, fuel etc): $500
- Props & Costumes: $250
- Venue Hire: $250

The main obstacle would be if the funding target was not reached. In that event, the contingency plan is to seek alternative sources of funding or to proceed with the clip but with a minimalistic treatment. This would mean dispensing with a number of the higher production-value elements, and ultimately de-emphasising the narrative to a degree.

Another issue to be aware of is that the production does not run over the schedule time. Doing so would incur costs out of the scope of the proposed budget, and would make it difficult to finalising a piece of consistent quality by the required time. The only practical way to avoid this is to invest as much time and energy into pre-production as possible.

And then of course there are Acts of God, but then love is an Act of God...
