LET OUR SEA BE PLASTIC BAG FREE – OCEAN GROVE is an environmental based campaign to reduce and where possible eliminate the use of disposable plastic bags by the Ocean Grove community in local retail outlets.
Having seen other regions journey towards being plastic bag free, and having a particular interest in the local marine environment, the Ocean Grove Coast Care Group has committed to running this campaign to create positive change in their community.
Our groups primary focus is to encourage shoppers to change their shopping habits and increase their use of re-usable shopping bags.
To do this we are keen to offer our own environmentally friendly jute bags with our campaign graphics, designed by local children from the Barwon Heads Primary school.
If you would like to help our cause, then please take up one of our rewards.
Locals, regular visitors, or keen supporters of the cause - Not only will you be helping to reduce your own disposable plastic bag usage, you will be assisting our organisation to raise funds and continue our campaign.

How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds will be used to get people using our re-usable jute shopping bags!
Not only will this campaign get 200 bags into the community, but we also aim to raise sufficient funds through this campaign to purchase a stock of 1000 re-usable jute bags for ongoing supply to the community.
Being able to provide these bags ongoing to the community will support our broader objectives of:
- Encouraging long-term behaviour change amongst community (consumers and businesses)
- Provide useable alternatives for businesses
- Build bag stock – have in store and at local farmers’ markets and available for community purchase
- Implement behaviour change activities e.g. schools, community programs
- Building networks with stakeholders e.g. coastal committee, schools etc.

The Challenges
Our primary challenge is to meet our funding target and be able to purchase our re-usable jute bags in large enough quantities to make them affordable to the local community. We wish to be able to provide them to the community for $5, which requires a minimum order size of 1000 to achieve this.

Coast Care Jute Bag
Your own Ocean Grove Coast Care re-usable jute bag! Sturdy and made from natural fibres. Bags can be picked up from several locations within Ocean Grove, or posted out for $9. Yes, I know the one in the pic says Barwon Heads, but when ours are printed they will say Ocean Grove! As a combined effort to make our shared coastline and river plastic bag free, we will be using the fantastic artwork first developed across the bridge by Barwon Heads primary school students!
