OakWith less than 48 hours to go for BBQ's Pozible campaign. I wish to send my gratitude. A story from a Butler... :) I watched a man I knew rebuild a boat. It was his dream to buy a boat and sail it across the oceans. He had worked tirelessly to achieve the goal of owning a boat. Not long after buying the boat it started to sink, so he pulled it out of the water and started rebuilding it. For 8 years he rebuilt that boat; 8 years, 12 (or more), hour days, 7 days a week, he was either working to raise money for it, or working on the boat. He worked so hard to get it in the water and then he died before it was finished. I have seen so many people not be able to get their boat in the water, or even find what their boat is. I have been one of those people (at times), too afraid to try, for it is no mean feat and can come with fear and obstacles bigger than an ocean. We have been lucky enough to put a boat in the water. We sailed the little thing from Beechworth, to Junee, Deniliquin, Coburn, Silverton, Menindee and Broken Hill and then we made it home. The support we have had from the start has been something that I have been continuously speechless and overwhelmed by. It has been phenomenal. When there are so many things in the world to be in despair over, or feel overwhelmed by and way too many things to be putting your money and energy towards; and yet here people are, cheering us on! I personally have had an endless stream of love, positivity, and support from so many people, sooo many people. I have had motorbike rescues and mechanical repairs, guitar lending- fixing, restringing, tutorials on neck adjustments, Cat support, vet visits, home stays and stores refilled, cd covers painted, designed and sent off, covers and mixing done on loan. People pledging and pledging for our Pozible campaign, friends fly to Broken Hill and back again, to be there for two gigs. I’ve had phone support, tech support, friend support, fund raising and dress jibing, client’s support and timetable adjustments, hugs, calls, brotherly love; some even offering to wear a dress with me- Priscilla re-enactment still to be decided! I got to work with two musicians that are actually brave enough to do this for a living and take it seriously. I have had the chance to be with a film, photography, sound and lighting crew that worked their arses off and a publicist who went above and beyond and was as hard working as a Wolfe for the pack. I have been housed along the way by the most generous, hospitable, warm and welcoming people. I have been reunited with family and friends and caught up with people that I haven’t seen in over 10 years. I've sung in harmony with friends and strangers. I have been back to the desert country and touched the red soil and looked up at that big old sky. I have been so overwhelmed by all of it. How do you show your gratitude and all the things you’re feeling after all of these experiences and many more? I say this… I got to be a part of putting a boat in the water at a time when I didn’t think it possible. You’ve all made it possible. Who’d a thunk it? A wee boat to Broken Hill and back could be such a fulfilling and heart strengthening adventure. I am humbled and I am proud to be a part of this team of sailors and grateful to them and all of you for the adventures and the chance to be a part of it. Thank you. P.S.
