Ethical By Design Tour India

A$4,005
of $4,000 targetyrs ago
Successful on 24th Aug 2015 at 5:52AM.
We are aspiring textile designers preparing to embark on a great adventure. Studying Textile Design & Development at RMIT, we've been invited to participate in a 15 day study tour of India late August-early September 2015. This opportunity is a game changer - where our night school musings will be catapulted into the stratosphere of textile Mecca.

With Fashion Revolution Day* done and dusted for another year, we're still asking: "who made my clothes?" We will meet the makers of the worlds clothes & begin establishing ethical trade relationships at the outset of our design careers. We want to make every effort to produce wares that positively impact the people who help us make them, while mitigating the impact production has on the environment. The only way to do this with confidence is to go to the source!

We will visits large scale industrial mills in Delhi, small scale print production houses in Bagru and Sanganeer, attend block printing and dying workshops in Pushkar; meet with arts and cultural conservation foundation Happy Hands; & undertake a educational cultural exchange project at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi.

Please help us seize this once in a lifetime opportunity. You will be supporting the keenest (and most grateful) aspiring textile designers India has yet to meet.

[*On 24 April 2013, 1133 people were killed and over 2500 were injured when the Rana Plaza factory complex collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Social and environmental catastrophes in our fashion supply chains continue. Fashion Revolution says enough is enough].

How The Funds Will Be Used

Our funding target covers a portion of our basic travel cost which are:
- Airfares $1320 each
- Land Arrangements $2716 each:
- guide
- accommodation
- bus and train travel
- woodblock carving and printing workshop

Any funds raised beyond our target will be used to support cultural and community initiatives such as Happy Hands Foundation who are "committed towards the revival of traditional/folk art and craft and empower rural artisans (particularly women and young people) to lead community development activities and craft entrepreneurship."
