My name is Trevor Brown and I was homeless living in my small van

for over 5 years from early 2008 to mid 2013 for most part on the streets of Melbourne.

Since then I've been studying firstly in 2013 doing my year 12 VCE cerficate which I got.

Last year I got into University, somewhere I never thought I get to. In the end of last year I

had produce a small video which was could have been anything, but i decided with all

the friends and connections I have I would make a small documentary about the homeless

and some of the impressive organisations that support them.

It is located at vimeo.com/143346488

This year I've become a volunteer for the Council of Homeless Persons, and advocating

for those still on the streets. CHP's primary mission, "End Homelessness"

Now in my second year at Victoria University Footscray,  I have moved into a new

Bachelor of Screen Media degree and next semester am required to produce a

25min documentary. Again I'm planning to produce a video to showcase the

homeless in a positive light while promoting some of the impressive organisations

that support them. I also indend to break some of the stearotypes attached

to the homeless.

In this planned project the important components include.

   * Demonstrate in a serious way excactly what the homeless have to deall with especially

     during winter.

   * Interview some of the seriously important people who's organisations are providing

more than just day to day support but actual solutions in regard to getting people

off the streets and into affordable accomadation.

   * Hope to be able to film some of the pilot programs which are already appearing over

the horizon to support those on the streets of Melbourne.

   * Show how not all the homeless are lazy or lack any skills and show how they can be

creative and artistic, if given opportunities.

   * Importanly most my crew and some of the peole who I plan to interview have been

Homeless and are still doing it tough. I wish to provide them with an interesting and

somewhat unique experience as we produce the film.

In additiion to the serious side of the project, I have already locked in small number of

local muscians who will allow me use their music as an impressive soundtrack.

As for equipment, Victoria University will allow me to loan all the equipment I need

to film this project.

I have many people excited about this project and hopefully with your help it can

see the light of day.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Most of the budget is made up of:

* Insurance (20 million public liability / $10,000 equipment insurance)

* Hire of a vehicle for a week, so we can efficiently get around to the film locations.

Important as some of the scenes will be filmed at night. I no longer own the van

  I lived in.

* A bit of catering... some takeaways, drinks, munchies while fiming.

* Buy some props to be used while filming then given to homeless such a swag which

we need for a couple of the scenes.

* Some small PPE equpment so my crew can remain safe during the filming, Torches,

UHF Radios, Crew Id's etc...I have a small team very happy to support me with this project.

* A little is put aside for marketing - Create a website, register domain name etc.

The Challenges

Firstly is in regard to one of the scenes which will be filmed in very wet weather.

The problem with filming in the rain is that you're filming in the rain LOL

More importantly getting the required insurance so I can get the required film permits to

film on the streets of Melbourne. Basically without these permits, I would struggle to

produce the doco as it exists in my mind.

Being able to hire a vehicle, probable a 4WD for a week would  allow me get around

the film location effeciently without trying to drag all the equipmenton public transport

- Not really an option.

Being able to fit out my team with some really good torches, gloves, UHF radios and

Crew id's would not allow us to look professional while we are filming but be an important

safety component. We will be filming on the streets of Melbourne for more than a few scenes

at night...
