We are Annalouise Paul and Pepa Molina, two Sydney-based flamenco dance artists who are in the process of making two exciting and unique new works – FORGE and BUSH BAILANDO – as a double bill for Dance Bites at Riverside Theatres in Parramatta, Sydney Australia from 5-7 May 2016.
Dance Bites is a program of high calibre contemporary dance works curated by Western-Sydney based FORM Dance Projects and an exciting opportunity for us to showcase our work, and that of our collaborating composers, musicians, and designers.
In Australia, Flamenco has travelled far from its Spanish roots, and we are committed to pushing its boundaries and developing its audiences here in Sydney. Our work demonstrates how contemporary thinking can impact on traditional practice to shift perceptions of flamenco as a folkloric form to one of global relevance and impact in the 21st century.
We are also presenting a post-show Fiesta, a big fun party with dancing and music, open to all ticket holders on Saturday, 7 May, the last night of the season. The Fiesta will provide an opportunity for both audiences and the Sydney flamenco community to participate in celebrating flamenco together.
Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program, every dollar you give to this campaign will be matched dollar
for dollar, provided we reach our campaign target of $7800. There are some great Rewards available as well as exciting Reward incentives which we will notify you of during the campaign.
So put on your dancing shoes and come along! We look forward to sharing FORGE and BUSH BAILANDO with you in May...Olé!
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECTS
Theatre of Rhythm and Dance presents FORGE

FORGE is a striking new dance-music collaboration between award-winning choreographer Annalouise Paul, pianist-sound designer Marianthe Loucataris and vocalist Helen Rivero. Evoking a blacksmith’s iron furnace, FORGE casts flamenco anew through contemporary dance, the percussive power of the piano and Sephardi song – out of the fires of invention, life forges on…

Compañia Pepa Molina presents BUSH BAILANDO

Internationally acclaimed Pepa Molina explores the displacement of her Andalusian heritage and identity within the Australian landscape in BUSH BAILANDO. Inspired by the natural environment of her home in Western Sydney, Pepa reinterprets traditional flamenco choreography through the sounds and rhythms of the Australian bush, composed in an original score by Hector González Sánchez and Marco van Doornum. Pepa is also joined on stage by Marco van Doornum (Flamenco guitar) and Stuart Vandegraaff (wind instrumentalist).

How The Funds Will Be Used
GOAL: $7,800
$6000 – Performers fees (dancers and musicians) x 5 @$1200 each
$1800 – Creatives fees (lighting, sound, set and costume) x 3 @$600 each
The development and rehearsal of both new works will be self-funded but if successful in raising the $7800 through this campaign, we will also receive $7800 in MATCH funding from Creative Partnerships Australia. This $7800 will support one week of rehearsal for the project. So, consider that your contribution is actually worth twice the amount you donate!
The Challenges
Without Pozible funding, we are relying on box office to pay artist fees and production costs during the performance week. But with only four shows to sell tickets, our box office income is limited.
Pozible funds will ensure that all artists are at least paid for the week of performances, and box office income will support the week’s productions costs (eg: piano hire, extra sound equipment and costumes and props).
The creative teams for both projects are high calibre professional artists at the top of their game and we’re determined to pay them for their time bringing our work to the stage.
Producing new independent dance work with no funding can be a daunting prospect but with your help we won’t be beaten!
I'd like to thank you for visiting our campaign page and hope to meet you at the shows in May.
Best wishes
Anne-Louise Rentell
