Back in 2013, Lucinda Shaw and I started work on our second Silver Sircus album.
We started with nothing - a blank canvas. Exciting and daunting at the same time - the point where nothing is done but everything is possible. We pulled new music and poetry out of thin air over a 12-month period, painstakingly threading words and lyrics around new songs and chord structures in front of Lucinda's piano. Salliana Campbell and Mark Angel brought in a stunning piece of music each and we worked on adding these to our growing body of work. After one year, it was all starting to hang together like a sprawling overgrown garden. We received a new work grant from the Australia Council For The Arts - the first time in 20 years of music making that we have been supported with funding. We used this primarily for our recording and studio costs. Starting in late 2014, we started piecing the album together, beginning with piano beds recorded by Zander Hulme at Gasworks Studios, using their 9-foot Steinway,
We then jumped over to Ian Haug's beautiful Airlock Studios in Samford to do the bulk of the tracking in February 2015, with the rest of the band and another long term collaborator - the always affable Lachlan 'Magoo' Goold.
Later in the year we rallied for the final touches and the final mixing which was completed in early 2016. Very close to the end of recording, Lucinda and I pulled together all the elements of the strangest and longest piece we have ever created. We called it Incarnadine, and it then became the title track for the album.
Three solid years in the making, Incarnadine has ended up being the biggest original music project Lucinda and I have ever worked on. We are intensely proud of it and truly believe it is the best thing we have ever made. In keeping with this, we have made the decision to present the work as a deluxe gatefold double album package, on vinyl (with a download card). We have been collaborating with graphic artist Brett Harris on the artwork and we have created what we think is a stunning art-piece - full of music, words and imagery.
We excitedly now offer this up to our friends, artistic community and audience - we sincerely hope you will support us and this new work which we are so proud of.

PS...
What does that word actually mean? INCARNADINE means a few different things... a) a crimson, reddish pink colour, b) to become this colour, c) to become alive... from the latin incarnātus meaning to be incarnated, to become flesh. All of these ideas are threaded through the album. We also think it sounds like a jewel or definitely a name...
About INCARNADINE
INCARNADINE features 10 new compositions across four sides of vinyl with a total run time of 72 minutes. It is due to be released in July 2016.

How The Funds Will Be Used
INCARNADINE has proven to be rather more costly than our previous recording projects. We would never have been able to complete it without the support of the Australia Council For The Arts which contributed approximately 60% of our cost of recording, mixing and mastering the album. The remaining 40% of this cost has been met and absorbed by myself and Lucinda.
This fundraising project takes the form of a pre-order campaign. We are offering the album, to be delivered to our supporters in early July. The album will not initially be made available in any other format - there will be no CD version, it will not be available on iTunes or Bandcamp, or available on any streaming services. We want to present the music to you in its physical form and for you to interact with it in the way we have creatively intended. The double albums however, will come with a download card and there is a 'download only' limited time option in this campaign.
The cost of our artwork and manufacture is just over $10,000 and we would love to be able to meet this with the campaign. To be prudent, we have set our target at $7500 and we feel confident that with your support, we can achieve this. We have put in reward quantities that would take us beyond our $10,000 cost and of course would be very happy for this to happen - this would mean that we would achieve a 'sustainable' financial milestone for Silver Sircus - which has always been our hope and our aim.
