HI! My name is Kira Puru. Thanks for coming by.

If you don't know me, I'm a musician and vocalist based in Melbourne, Australia. I'm proudly 100% self-managed and independent.

After 4 or so years of national touring, my band, Kira Puru & the Bruise, folded in 2013. Subsequently, I relocated to Melbourne pretty uncertain as to whether I would continue my musical pursuits. A few chance opportunities opened up for me here that snowballed into 2 solid years of successful collaborations with some of the Australia's most prolific musicians/writers (like Paul Kelly, Illy, Paul Mac and Urthboy to name a small few) which helped me fall in love all over again with making music and performing live. 

During that time, I've been squirrelling away moments to write my own music in preparation for my debut solo record - an EP - which I'm planning to release later this year. We've already started production and I'm really pleased with the way it's sounding, but as you might know, records cost a lot of money and this is where I'm hoping that you can help...

This release will be home to my 2015 single, 'All Dulled Out' and five other new tracks(though I've many more written - we're gonna start small). Co-produced with Hope St Studio's Ptero Stylus(Briggs, Diafrix, Joelistics, Mantra, Mojo Juju), it smashes my love 4 hip hop beats and smooth R&B against my shameless obsession with trashy pop and admiration for earnest and confronting lyricists like Elliott Smith and Angel Olsen. It's a fair journey from most things you would have heard from me before - but, like, everyone says that about their new projects, right?

I'll be bringing in my new band; Gabe Stranjio (Clairy Browne &The Bangin' Rackettes), Shanna Watson (Boatfriends, Caitlin Park, the Early Nights, BirdsandBelles) and Sam Peterson (Boatfriends, the Evening Son), to combine the dreamy, electronic beats I've written with warm, live instrumentation.

Being an independent, self-managed artist, it's been a lot of intense, hard work, time and money getting (and keeping) this project off the ground. I'd really like to put this EP out into the world as soon as possible so that I can move on to make my first LP, tour with my new band and collaborate with more people. This money will afford me that opportunity :)

I've received such amazing messages of support from fans and peers who endorse this method and I'm really excited to be able to connect with you all in such a personal way. 

I plan to move directly on to a tour and another record after this - so, I figure that moving through this first release with your support is the best and quickest way to get this music from my hands to yours for now.
