UPDATE




It's been over two years since 'Penelope' was written. Since then we've been preparing until the right time to bring it to ­­screen. That time has now come, and we need your help to make it happen!



Penelope is a short film set in Los Angeles, 1957. It follows the story of a mysterious woman who is living a paranoid and isolated existence in a home set high in the hills of LA. Only one person has access into her life. Maggie is Penelope's confidant, the one who understands her, who has been there throughout her hazy past. She is the voice of reason to Penelope.

The audience will be kept guessing as to what the plight of Penelope will be. Is she on the run from the law? Is she in danger? The past life of Penelope looms over the audience in mystery, until a striking epiphany sheds light onto her past.

It is a psychological journey, as we see the unfolding of how Penelope has chosen to reconcile the pressures of society with her inner self.



Visually, the film will embody the classic film techniques of the 1950s. The attention to detail in the sets, props, costumes and makeup will be echoed in the cinematography and lighting.

It's an ambitious production, as we navigate the creative challenges of shooting an LA period film in Sydney 2014. However, the team we have assembled are highly skilled and we are ready to take on this challenge to create a beautiful film. We have locked in some great locations in Sydney and Newcastle to bring this story to life. We will combine these sets with visual effects to reproduce the hills, cityscapes and streets of 1950s LA.
The interiors will be shot in original 1950s buildings, and will showcase the beloved modernist design of the era.






Each of the Key Creatives have a team of skilled crew members to bring this film to life.






Elisa Colla is Penelope
Elisa recently wrapped on Wicked the Musical, playing Nessarose in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Singapore and Seoul. Elisa is a great young talent in the theatre world with Penelope being her first venture into film.


Nerida Bronwen is Maggie
Nerida pursued acting from the age of four. She schemed and manipulated her way into the lead role in Kindy production and now has a lot more experience under her belt. Nerida’s credits include Crownies, Home & Away, Deadly Women and most recently a US webseries Daddy Knows Best.



Milan Pulvermacher is Victor
Having recently returned from shooting a Panasonic campaign in Japan, Milan now turns his eyes on Penelope. His other credits this year include The Great Gatsby.

The main challenge involved in making this film is going to be achieving the authenticity of replicating Los Angeles 1957. However, we are armed with research and an array of techniques that make us confident that we can pull this off.
