Jiao ChenHi Adam,

Thanks for taking interest and commenting!

We have read numerous articles citing being a jockey as the most dangerous land-based INDIVIDUAL profession (i.e. not measuring an entire industry as the research you pointed out). In fact, according to research in America the only profession more dangerous (measured by rate of falls, injuries and fatalities) is that of an offshore fisherman. Most of the discussion is based around research published by the Menzies Institute in Australia.

However it should be noted that that research only accounted for race-day falls and did not include falls during trackwork (which would only add to the total number of falls). Furthermore not all jockey deaths are reported and the studies are based on ones that are.

Some articles are below.

http://www.actu.org.au/media/mediareleases/backinjuredjockeysthismelbournecup.aspx

https://www.mja.com.au/journal/2009/190/2/incidence-race-day-jockey-falls-australia-2002-2006#12

http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/horseracing/being-a-jockey-the-most-dangerous-job-on-land/2009/01/18/1232213449153.html

There will always be disputes over the definition of "dangerous" of course and the data does not take into account falls that happen outside of race-day so your point is very valid - it is a bold statement. I'll discuss with my colleague to change it to "one of the most dangerous land based jobs".

Thank you again for commenting! Let us know if you have anymore questions!

Cheers,
Jiao14y
Adam DazeHi there. I'm interested in supporting this but I'd like proof of the opening statement, that it is in fact the "most dangerous profession" in Australia. That's a bold statement.

According to http://www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/AboutSafeWorkAustralia/WhatWeDo/Publications/Documents/661/Compendium 2009_10 report.pdf
The most dangerous industry is construction?

According to http://www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/AboutSafeWorkAustralia/WhatWeDo/Publications/Documents/686/AnnualNotifiedFatalitiesReport2010-11.pdf

Five industries accounted for eight out of every ten notified work-related fatalities — 36 fatalities occurred at Agriculture, forestry & fishing workplaces; 30 at Construction workplaces; 22 at Manufacturing workplaces;
14 at Transport & storage workplaces; and 9 at Mining workplaces.

I do applaud the premise behind the film though. It seems well thought out and should be educational...but I'm wary of overly bold statements.14y
