"Living Art: Papua New Guinea" is a visual celebration of the artistic and cultural wealth of the peoples of Papua New Guinea. Set for release on the 50th Anniversary of Independence in September 2025, this book from Dr Susan Cochrane and published by Melbourne Books contains over 300 images and features more than 120 artists, sharing their stories and their talent with the world.

Pre-orders through this campaign will also receive an exclusive 50th Anniversary of Independence Edition Belly Wrap, as pictured in the rewards.

The book explores the intersection of kastom and contemporary culture in PNG, drawing attention to the way the past, present and future influence the diverse art forms of this land and its people. Cochrane highlights pioneering contemporary artists such as Joe Nalo and Ruki Fame; features national festivals such as Goroka and the Highlands festivals; celebrates the international exhibitions of PNG art such as the Asia Pacific Triennial, the Mariwai Project and the Sepik River Project; and spotlights the increadible artistic talent of PNG women artists such as Jane Wena and Anna Amos.

"Living Art" has received a glowing endorsement from the Honourable James Marape, the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, and features an introduction from acclaimed PNG academic Dr Michael A Mel, and a foreword from Mr Steven Enomb Kilanda MBE, the Director of the National Cultural Commission.

"80 Books for 80 Artists" is Melbourne Books' endeavour to ensure all the living, contributing artists from Papua New Guinea receive their copies of this commemorative and celebratory work.
