Through this crowdfunding campaign, The Good Beer Co - Australia's social enterprise beer company, aims to brew, can, package and deliver the first batch of a fantastic new Australian Lager and raise funds to expand environmental education and Great Barrier Beer sales around Australia.
This will generate vital funds for initiatives to support Australia’s long standing custodian of the Great Barrier Reef, the Australian Marine Conservation Society, with 10 percent of every carton going to the charity.
Now let’s be very clear upfront! The Australian Marine Conservation Society is NOT the organisation that received $443 million from the Turnbull government.
The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is a charity that advocates to protect our Reef, with a small core team and volunteers who've worked tirelessly with stakeholders including local communities, the tourism industry and the government for over 50 years. And they need our help now more than ever.
The Reef needs our help
Our national and global treasure is in danger.
The Great Barrier Reef is one of the greatest natural wonders of the world.
But it is under rapidly increasing threat from warming waters caused by climate change, pollution and industrial development.
In 2016 and 2017, our Great Barrier Reef suffered two unprecedented severe marine heat waves, which means the warmer waters actually cooked and killed about 50% of its shallow water corals.
This is called coral bleaching because when the corals die, our beautiful rainbow coloured reef turns white.
These corals are the basis of all marine life on the reef; they feed, home and nurture all the beautiful diversity of fish and marine creatures we love. So when they die, the marine life has no choice but to move on to another remaining area of living coral. Eventually we will not have enough coral to sustain all the marine life and the ecosystem will break down.
The writing on the wall.
This unprecedented coral bleaching is being caused by climate change, which is driven by the continued use of fossil fuels which increase carbon emissions into our atmosphere.
If we continue burning fossil fuels at our current rate, instead of developing and using renewable energy technologies, then by 2050 severe bleaching events are likely to not just hit the Great Barrier Reef EVERY year - but also reefs across the planet. We could begin to see the breakdown of our delicate global ocean ecosystems in our lifetimes.
That could also spell the end of the Great Barrier Reef as we know it.
We need to seriously think about the big picture and the world we will leave for our children and grandchildren.
The good news is it’s not too late. Like many other grassroots movements, together we can mobilise people power to lobby our government and activate positive change.
That’s why The Good Beer Co created Great Barrier Beer – to support the Australian Marine Conservation Society and their Fight For Our Reef campaign. It’s a true David and Goliath battle with powerful mining companies to protect our national icon from climate change, industrialisation and pollution plus the 64,000 jobs and $6 billion it generates in tourism every year.
The Reef is a core part of who we are as a nation.
We CANnot let this happen!
That’s why it's up to good businesses, good people and now good beer drinkers to say Yes We CAN Save The Reef!
Help us engage and mobilise Australians about this vital issue and hold our government to account.

"We all know our Reef needs all our help right now. Every time someone drinks a Great Barrier Beer they are raising a glass to a better future for our Reef."
Darren Kindleysides, Director, Australian Marine Conservation Society
The Good Beer Co - Australia's first social enterprise beer company - was launched in Brisbane in November 2015 after Founder James Grugeon set out to prove that good beer can help change things for the better.
Last year, The Good Beer Co. created a wave of love across the nation for its Love2 beer when thousands raised a toast to love and important funds for Australian Marriage Equality.
And James has taken his good (beer) work to the UK too, with the Great Get Together Pale Ale for the Jo Cox Foundation in 2017.
James is passionate about action to tackle climate change and the power of social enterprise – people power - and beer - to do good.
Frustrated by a lack of action from the Australian government on climate change and the Great Barrier Reef, James found a fantastic charity partner in the Australian Marine Conservation Society - and Great Barrier Beer was born.
You CAN join 5,000 good beer drinkers!
Rest assured, Great Barrier Beer has been thoroughly ‘road tested’ in many fantastic bars, restaurants, hotels, resorts and bottle shops across Queensland for your enjoyment.
The Good Beer Co took the new Great Barrier Beer Australian Lager to Beer InCider 2018 to road test it on over 15,000 festival goers.
The beer was so popular it sold out and two extra kegs had to be delivered to keep up with the demand. That festival, over $1,500 was raised for the AMCS.
